A great day in American History as Elon Musk appears at the opening of his giga factory in Texas.

His historic speech is Here
I have come to believe that Elon Musk is one of a body extremely few great men, giants of industry. John D Rockefeller, Andrew Carnagie, Cornelius Vanderbilt, Thomas Edison....... fantastic industrialists and businessmen.
This speech is in my view a historic event marking a formal beginning to change in America that can't be imagined. Conservatives eschew change and resist when possible. I recommend watching the video to become informed about present reality.
I present the video of a full blooded salesman dressed in black jeans, a Texas cyber rodeo T shirt with belt buckle, sun glasses and a black Stetson hat. One could not appear more humble or Texan than that.
He speaks of his Giga factory, his cars, his truck, his business...... of Texas. Mixed in is his view of the future, of a great America.
Musk is going to be a fantastically important Texan and all that means for America. He left California because "it is crowded and there was no room to grow" (slap)
Conservatives should take the time this morning to watch the video and see what is coming. It is coming, ready or not and is in fact here
Although I have become a Musk fan, I have no interest is a new electric car and all that entail.
Ping for your group
1. Has Tesla or any of his companies made a profit. I keep reading and hearing they haven't.
2. Hasn't he built his businesses totally off government subsidies? Is this true?
If the above is true, that hardly puts him in the league of the Captains of Industry of old. Ok, maybe I'm being to hard on him Maybe he just recognizes that capitalism is dead and we not operate under this quasi-mecantilist even semi-fascist economic system. He cleverly takes advantage of that. If we look at it that way I gave him kudos for recognizing the reality and exploiting it.
“I am somewhat apprehensive about this post because I know there are many here who really don’t like Elon Musk and are especially anti electric car.”
Always ok to post stuff...no one here is forced to agree.
As for Musk, he’s mostly redeemed himself with his move on Twitter, although it would be great if he added some hybrids to his EV lineup.
This comes just over a week after opening the gargantuan, super hi tech Gigafactory in Berlin Germany, which the German Chancellor himself attended.
Not to mention sending the all civilian Axiom 1 to the Space Station on Falcon 9 and buying 9.2% of Twitter.
Musk is Superman right now.
“Redeemed himself” from what?
Why on earth would he waste him time and money on hybrids? Hybrids are going nowhere.
It doesn’t really matter. That is mostly static from the pea nut gallery.
What he has done is create the company with a capitalization greater than that of Ford, GM and Chrysler combined. His last quarter sales were in the hundreds of thousands. He has the existing capacity tp produce millions of cars per year
He is now one of the greatest businessmen in American history ant what’s more........ he has become a Texan and all that implies
“Redeemed himself” from what?”
The taking of HUGE government subsidies.
“Why on earth would he waste him time and money on hybrids? Hybrids are going nowhere.”
Maybe because, for people that travel, they won’t need an additional car.
Oh and did I mention....he's really, really rich.
I disagree ! I think it does matter.
Because using your criteria of the amount of capitalization, that makes him more of a salesman (almost at the carnival barkerlevel!) then a businessman. Raising money is great, one leg of the businessman’s chair or stool. If raising money is all he does, he’s more of a Madoff then a Ford.
I think he’s more like Howard Hughes in his heyday. I also think the guys true genius is hiring people. He’s surrounded himself with the right people that mostly nobody has ever seen or heard, but his companies keep going in the right direction. That’s huge.
Howard Hughes’ companies did make money!
I guess you’re telling me that profitability is irrelevant now. I guess as long as you keep bringing investors in, you can keep the money balls in the air.
I am uncomfortable with that being the new business paradigm.
I’m a Must fan too... and ditto on the electric car. Not now. Maybe in the future - for now I’m staying with the old combustion engine type...
The guy paid a stunning $11 Billion in taxes last year alone, a record for any American in history.
Plus Tesla buyers haven't received any EV subsidies for close to 3 years.
Maybe because, for people that travel, they won't need an additional car.
The Model S can handle all the traveling you want with plenty to spare.

“The Model S can handle all the traveling you want with plenty to spare.”
Maybe if I’m retired.
“Plus Tesla buyers haven’t received any EV subsidies for close to 3 years.”
So if a bank robber stops robbing banks 3 years ago, then he’s fully ‘reformed’? Not in my book.
I agree. And so, Superman must have been "on the spectrum" as well.
