Resurfaced SNL Video of Dan Akroyd Mocking Jimmy Carter’s Inflation Comes Back to Haunt the Biden-Harris Regime [VIDEO]

This would be funny if it weren’t hitting the average American so hard in the pocketbook and in their quality of life.

A video from 1978 – back in the day when it was legal to poke fun at Democrats — shows legendary comedian Dan Akroyd of “Saturday Night Live” fame playing failed Democrat President Jimmy Carter, who is desperately trying to explain away his failed policies and why the massive inflation he caused is somehow a positive thing.

“Inflation is our friend,” Akroyd begins, mimicking the Southern accent of Carter begins. “For example, consider this; In the year 2000, if current trends continue, the average blue-collar annual wage in this country will be $568,000.”

“Think what this inflated world of the future will mean,” Carter [Akroyd] continues. “Most Americans will be millionaires. Everyone will feel like a big shot. Wouldn’t you like to own a $4,000 suit and smoke a $75 cigar, drive a $600,000 car? I know I would.”

He continues.

Inflation was extremely high during the Carter administration (1976-1980) and spilled over into the early 1980s, but back then, inflation was much more honestly calculated. The government has since doctored the data to downplay inflation so much that the most recent report of 7.9% is really over 15%, according to Shadowstats.

This means that unless you got a 15% pay raise, you got an actual cut in pay thanks to our federal overlords in the Biden-Regime that keeps spending money we don’t have, and thanks to the Federal Reserve, that keeps printing trillions of dollars out of thin air.

Additionally, that “safe” money you have in the bank earning close to zero percent? That money also “safely” lost 15% of its value in terms of purchasing power.

Inflation is a cruel tax imposed on poor and middle-class Americans and is not a laughing matter. But maybe if some of our entertainers and comedians would expose it the way Dan Akroyd did in the late 70s, maybe Americans would elect the next great president as they did in 1980 with Ronald Reagan.

The reason people were funny in those days ala Carson and others, was because they made fun of EVERYONE.

Yep, through the 80's and 90's the media and entertainment morphed into what it is today, a collection of radical hate filled Left wing activists.

They have not exactly covered themselves in fiscal restraint

Hence the start of talk about America needing a second Tea Party (event, NOT political faction)

I think the reason the cast could poke fun at all politicians, is because we grew up not trusting ANY of them. We had Nixon, Johnson, and Carter. There was plenty there for everyone to laugh at.

But I put this lack of humor in today’s political world on Clinton. His embarrassment and guilt over Monica was picked up and used by the media to shut down criticism - ‘You can’t talk about that in polite company!’

They used it against us, and it worked. No one speaks of it today, unless you’re a hater. To the media and the average voter, it’s gone down the memory hole.

Can't have a 'collection of radical hate filled Left wing activists' without having a collector to build it.

That's on Lorne Michaels - until the show was a huge hit and most of the original cast left, he didn't have the power to shape it into what it became. When they brought him back to save the show after the mess Dick Ebersol turned it into, he did that and over time it's gotten to the point no one dared cross him.

Haven't watched since Will Farrell left, and haven't felt it since we lost Phil Hartman. Nothing cast-wise except bit players since then.

Since the end of the Not Ready for Primetime Players circa 1980 I have probably watched two hours total. It’s just not funny.

There *was* a time when SNL was funny. Trust me on that. Of course we're talking about 40+ years ago. Trust me on *tat* too!

I remember SNL poking fun of Clinton (the 1990’s). There was no way even a left-leaning show like SNL would pass up the comedy gold Clinton was.

Bill Clinton : Alright, boys, let's stop in here for a second. I'm a little parched from the jog.

Secret Service Agent : Eh, Sir, we've only been jogging for three blocks. Besides, Mrs. Clinton asked us not to let you in to any more fast food places.

Bill Clinton : Well, I just wanna mingle with the American people, talk with some real folks, maybe get a Diet Coke, or something...

Secret Service Agent : All right, fine. But please, don't tell Mrs. Clinton.

Bill Clinton : Jim, let me tell you something: there's gonna be a whole bunch of things we don't tell Mrs. Clinton. Fast food is the least of our worries, ok, buddy?

So do I.

When I was in college, Saturday night parties would basically stop, TV went on, and the whole group would watch SNL. Party would restart when it was over.
