Portland grocery chain Fred Meyers (Kroger subsidiary) plays loud classical music in its parking lot to deter illegal activities, including gangs, drug deals, and other crime. And it is working. But some neighbors complain it is "irritating and inhumane".
Fred Meyer released a statement saying the deterrent is effective. Portland Police refuse to pursue the noise complaints. Details in video.
So, I had a brain flash. Maybe I should turn the tables. The next day, I brought my opera cds with me. They parked next to me, so I rolled down my windows and played my famous opera arias CD at a high volume. You never saw young people winding up their windows so fast.
Hopefully, it was a lesson in teaching them that your music may not be something that other people want to listen to.
They should play Mahler. Nobody likes Mahler.
Fred Meyer is owned by Kroger now. Had an Oregon founding but bought out by the Big Guys.
