The Fall of Seattle
Unherd ^ | March 26, 2022 | T.A. Frank

What happened to Seattle? The answer, of course, depends on your politics. In the news section of the Seattle Times, for instance, a reader is unlikely to see any consideration of a link between policing and public safety. “No single cause for 2021’s surge in gunfire in Seattle,” declared a typical recent headline over an article that points only to possibilities such as the pandemic or an unlucky cycle of “retaliatory violence”. But the majority view in Seattle appears to have shifted toward an acknowledgement that the unrest and destruction that occurred after the killing of George Floyd in 2020 marked a turning point and that the city’s policies toward its police force, whose ranks are now depleted, are relevant to understanding the story. What follows, based on interviews with a number of past and present police officers — five of whom are on the record in this article — is an attempt to offer an obvious but unheeded perspective. It is a cop’s-eye view of Seattle’s undoing.

40 years ago, I spent over 20 years working in Seattle. Went to two universities there. I had a concealed carry license as did most of my friends.
Seattle police suked then and are even worse now. What has changed is most the more conservative people moved out and abandoned the city core to the Capitol hill, University district, Lake union, Green Lake, et al liberal nut cases.
Smart rich people moved out, leaving the druggies, Union gospel mission clientele, and homeless to downtown.

There is no Seattle problem so serious that it couldn’t be cured with a liberal dose of RAT poison!

The author of the article, "The fall of Seattle", T.A. Frank is a propagandist.

It's not surprising that he is a writer for 'Vanity Fair'.

the unrest and destruction that occurred after the killing [emphasis mine] of George Floyd. No, George Floyd killed himself by overdosing on drugs.

Groups of protesters shattered windows up and down the retail corridors of downtown and emptied many of the stores of their merchandise. The non-propaganda statement is "Rioters shattered windows up and down the retail corridors of downtown and looted many of the stores." They were rioters, not protesters and they weren't just emptying stores of their merchandise, they were looting.

The Democrats in office in Seattle are guilty of aiding and abetting the rioting and looting. They're guilty of aiding and abetting those who killed people at the "autonomous zone". They're also guilty of covering it up since then. ALL video, especially from body cameras, is publicly owned but has been squelched.

No, George Floyd killed himself by overdosing on drugs.

There is a good chance you are right, but FWIW the autopsy said his cause of death was homicide. The author brings up the subject only to point out that Seattle cops did not cheer Floyd's death, as the rioters apparently believed.

The Fall of Seattle

What happened to Seattle? ... In the news section of the Seattle Times, for instance ... "No single cause for 2021’s surge in gunfire in Seattle," declared a typical recent headline ...

Yep, that's exactly how the MSM Seattle Times and the entire MSM (news networks, social media, and newspapers) across the country always describe it: "Gun Violence." Also, academia and all Democrats/RINOs always call it "Gun Violence," too.

I can solve that age-old violent crime problem fast, but nobody ever asks me for the answer. Ok, here goes my solution: Get rid of all the guns across the country, because they're the ones who are committing all the crimes. Boom! Problem solved.

As the MSM correctly describes it, it's "Gun Violence," meaning all the "guns" must have actual arms, legs and brains and are, on their own, constantly roaming all inner-city areas 24/7/365, randomly shooting everywhere, with "stray" bullets constantly killing innocent people, too.

If you actually want to stop the so-called "Gun Violence" problem, you first have to stop incorrectly labeling the problem you claim you're trying to solve. It's not "Gun Violence." The correct description of the nationwide violent epidemic is: "Young Fatherless Gun-Wielding Black Males." And before you claim I'm being sexist, xenophobic, racist, or homophobic, the obvious fact is that Asian women aren't committing all the so-called "Gun Violence." And it's not white women committing all the crimes. And it's not Brazilian-American guys committing all the crimes. Every person in the U.S. knows it's young fatherless gun-wielding black males actually committing the overwhelming majority of so-called "gun violence." Call the problem what it actually is. But as long as Democrats/RINOs continue deceptively calling it "Gun Violence," they'll never, ever "solve" the extreme inner-city violent crime problem throughout the U.S. (The underlying hint here is that the disintegrated family structure and related lack of respect for education are the root causes. Something like 75% of black children are born into single-parent, fatherless households.) Until that underlying nuclear family problem is fully acknowledged and directly addressed, the so-called "Gun Violence" problem will never be solved. Period.

If you’re vaccinated I’d recommend Victoria BC, or if not then the San Juan Islands up here.

I live an hour north of Seattle and only drive thru it. Never stop there anymore, and made sure I was carrying on my last visit.

This is the result of needle exchanges, free bus fares, open air drugs, tolerating living on the streets, open borders where the drugs and the drug pusher/users/cartel were allowed to come in and ply their wares. Decriminalization of MJ, now it is Heroin, Fentanyl, Meth, Cocaine, Crack, prostitution even of children. It is legal to sell children for a profit in Seattle. You have a mother either currently or in a few weeks to fly in, you pay her freight, give her some money and the baby is yours, or babies.

Childrens hospital is giving children Trans-forming drugs, while keeping non-vaccinated children from services. Teachers are teaching how to arouse children, to children. “How to turn a no into a yes”. “If a girl is not ready to have sex, how about take a hot bath with the boy in the nude?” In saner times this would be called GROOMING, and Fathers would punch out Teachers and Principals and the Police would turn their heads, laugh and walk away.

Look at whatever city you live in, it will be next. Boise, Salt Lake City, Austin Texas, they own the Universities, they own the children and the Press.

Get involved, be on the school board, get elected to a planning board, commissioner mayors office, or just work the polls. The big decisions are made at the smallest levels.

I say it was accidental death, and I don’t have to worry about my job like the coroner. In fact, coroners are one of the most easily corrupted positions. They are usually not wealthy, believe in being honest, but are easily pressured when BIG things come down.

Not the police, the city council. That is the source of the problem.
