Craig Clouatre, 40, of Livingston, was found dead on Thursday after he had gone out hiking with a friend the day before – possibly to hunt for antlers — and never showed up at a designated meeting spot.
Officials provided no details on where he was found or why they believe a grizzly bear was responsible for his death.
The search began Wednesday night with teams on the ground and in helicopters concentrating their efforts on the Six Mile Creek area of the Absaroka Mountains, north of Yellowstone National Park.

Probably one of those piles of Bear scat with bells, a whistle, and a bear spray can in it, tipped them off.
It is never a good idea to hike by yourself in bear country. Not saying he deserved being attacked by a bear. Nobody does.
At the very least, always be sure to hike with someone that is a slower runner than you.
Can I have the bells he was wearing?
It’s tragic that he was killed by a Bear, but at least his wife and children were not there to witness it happening.

Minimum .45 maybe even with a +P round, but probably better to have a 10mm. And that’s only because it’s harder to carry a shotgun with slugs.

Always carry an RPG or a hand grenade when in Grizzly country. If you are that close to use pepper bear spray you is ded alredy.. A black bear raced our car once up`n on the mountaintop when I wuz a kid. My mom wuz drivin. We wuz doin 40 neck n neck. She gunned the motor n said, “Watch this!” She used to go blueberryin as a kid with her sisters armed only with pots n pans to bang on to scare them bears away. We got a bear comes right next to the porch but the cats scare him away. True story.
