New MasterCard to monitor cardholders' carbon footprint, cap purchases
American Thinker ^ | 27 Mar, 2022 | Eric Utter

When MasterCard and the United Nations have joined forces, you know bad news is on the horizon.

Auto manufacturers, companies, and governments increasingly have the power to track our every movement and prevent us from driving our own vehicles. Supposedly democratic governments can lock us down or even freeze our bank accounts on a whim (see also "Canada" and "Trudeau"). In this increasingly dystopian world, large multinational corporations are working hand-in-glove with said governments to reshape society in their preferred image, garden-variety citizens be damned.

To that end, MasterCard and the United Nations have joined forces to produce a credit card that measures your carbon footprint. Once you reach your "limit," you can't purchase anything else...at least with that card. Well, isn't that special? What's next? We may not want to know.

But perhaps I'm too cynical. What could be the downside?

Would it prevent the cardholder from purchasing, say, cigarettes? Put a cap on how much one could spend at a liquor store? If we were to try to order Glenn Beck's new book, The Great Reset, from barnesandnoble.com, would it generate a message like "incorrect purchase, authorization not allowed"? If we wanted to use it to pay for our subscription to the New York Post, would a pop-up notice appear saying, "Transaction disallowed, inappropriate material!"?

I guess the consumer had best read the fine print on the cardholder agreement: "This card not authorized for transactions at Chick-fil-A, Hobby Lobby, and certain other retailers ..." [I jest.]

I would bet that woman in New York used her card when she was filling her second car with gas and the meter stopped and told her she reached her limit.

They probably have this system ready to go and were testing it. Look for new upated equipment everywhere.

Most of what I purchase is from online sources. Local stores don’t exist for such things as: electronic components, cutting tools for lathe/mill, filament for 3D printer, quality hand tools, etc. A credit card is pretty much the only way that ca be done.

"Auto manufacturers, companies, and governments increasingly have the power to track our every movement"

Apple and Google have been doing this for a decade. What's new? Are you surprised that others may be doing it now, too?

When a debit card is hijacked you will lose everything in that account, without recourse. The same is not true for a credit card. I always pay my credit cards to zero every month.

“If you’re buying baloney with a credit card, you REALLY can’t afford it…”

Life’s gotten so bad, we’re downgrading to Spam.

I’m gonna miss those fine cuts of baloney...

Most assuredly. This comes from liberal, woke MC wonks buying into the MSM news in their cloistered, rat hole cities, listening to their AP-brainwashed drive time radio and not having any contact with normal Americans. They only socialize and schmooze with people of their same twisted leftist bents.

I predict very bad results for them.

Agree.
The best thing we can do for ourselves, our families and our country is to stop using credit cards, cut them up and pay off balances.

To those who think they must have credit cards this is not so. We haven’t used them at all for 5 years. Credit cards are actually a drug, a mental and emotional drug. Instead of buying something you don’t need, put the purchase price of that item in the bank, use it to pay off your credit card balances. Get on a written budget and follow it.

Get rid of them, Just do it!

I buy in large quantities on-line, save a ridiculous amount per unit over brick and mortar stores.

That requires a credit card—which is critical for online purchasing in case you need to dispute a purchase.

Then I pay the bill in full each month.

If you have a better solution, I am ready to hear it.

If you are paying with cash or debit, you are getting ripped off about 2% on every purchase. The retailers have already added that amount to the price of the goods for the cost of the credit card transaction. The only way to get it back is through some sort of “rewards” program. I put everything I ever purchase on credit cards and then pay off the balance each month. I typically get over $1,500 in “rewards” back every year.
