I was all Apple from 1982 until the early 1990s. Then as I joined the business world, the availability of accounting and warehouse/production management software made me switch to Windows. We still used Apple for design stuff, but, then switched that over to Windows.

I do use an iPhone, though. It syncs fine with Windows.

Now I wonder whether I should switch everything to cloud based, drop all the hardware management annoyances. But, last time I tried to use a Mac a few years ago, all the buttons were backwards and I had no idea what the icons do. So, learning curve... Plus, I still have my hesitations with cloud stuff giving all my data to all the spies out there.

Popular programs such as Microsoft Office, Visual Studio, Quickbooks, Internet Explorer

Except for Access, the major components of Microsoft Office are available for Mac. So is Quickbooks. I have no idea why ANY Mac user would want Microsoft Visual Studio. Internet Explorer is mainly used for running legacy intranet programs in corporate environments, though at least it isn't Chromium-based.

Oddly, I actually need to use Access, so I still run a Windows environment on a dual-boot setup. I also use Filemaker Pro in Windows, because my other OS is Ubuntu, and I don't know of any way to make FileMaker 18 run in Ubuntu.

Technically, you are still obligated to purchase an OS lincense from Microsoft, regardless of the hardware or software platform you launch it from.

It may be included with the hardware or software, but do check.

To be clear, Parallels does NOT let you run Intel/AMD x86 operating systems on new Apple Silicon based Macs.

It will allow you to run ARM64 operating systems on new Macs, including Windows, if you can figure out how to legally get it (it isn’t for retail sale yet), and Microsoft doesn’t pull the rug out from everybody by not making it available for sale.
