Two video clips featuring US fighters appeared on Twitter on Thursday: one showing an American in combat gear posing in front of the burnt remains of what he said was a Russian tank. Off camera, a Ukrainian shouts “Welcome to America!” and the American repeats the phrase.
In the other, narrated by a different soldier with an American accent, shows a detachment of soldiers taking cover by a wall alongside a road, in a village the narrator claims they have recaptured from the Russians.

I have read that Russia is using Twitter selfies to target the barracks of foreign mercenaries. Is a strong urges to photograph oneself a hallmark of narcissism?

Russia has recruited a lot of troops from Syria and other places. We aren’t threatening to bomb them. I agree about the optics though. Escalation should be avoided, but it should be obvious they are acting independently.
These guys are very brave. The probability of their death or injury is definitely high, but they appear to be making a difference.
Smells like CIA/Intel propaganda story to me.

That’s one reason I suspect propaganda is the objective here, everything’s just a little too on the nose in pushing deep state talking points.

But if anyone really wanted to risk giving up his life for a swath of some Slavic real estate that goes back and forth, I wouldn’t stop him. There’s plenty of Darwin Awards left to hand out in this conflict.
