PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia police say a would-be robber was killed inside of a dollar store on Thursday night.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. at the Dollar General located at 9th Street and Girard Avenue.

Police say a man tried to rob the store when he was shot in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The store manager, who is licensed to carry, shot and killed a man who said he had a gun and ordered the cashier to empty the register, according to investigators.

However, police say the suspect did not have a weapon, but he was in possession of an object that looked like gun.

It’s getting so a thief can’t make an honest living.

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition there will be no warning shots fired.

No mother should have to fear for her son’s life every time he robs a store.

Nobody has time to check in situations like that.

He lost at life’s lottery that time. A little more of that and crime will drop both from the word getting out and others not wanting to take the risk, and from the fact that probably a career criminal is now dealt with and won’t be reoffending.

No mother in America should have to worry that her son will be shot during an armed robbery!

Will the store manager be allowed to sell the would-be robber’s carcass to some maggot farm to recoup the cost of the bullet and clean-up efforts?

If you are going to rob a store, I'll rob Kay Jewelers, Nieman-Marcus or Tiffany, not a Dollar Store...

I bet his family said he was turning his life around, but the manager helped him from the life of crime....

Good. This is what needs to happen to any and all armed robbers.

Dollar General? Would-be robber didn’t have very high aspirations, did he? Shoulda died trying to rob a jewelry store.

In high end stores, people pay with credit cards. A robber wants a store with cash customers.

Actually U.S. banks are still being held up at the rate of one per day.

But 75% of the time, the robbers are sent to justice.

One of the tricks is to insert a tracking device inside the bag of money.

Another reason why smart criminals are stealing on-line.
