PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia police say a would-be robber was killed inside of a dollar store on Thursday night.
It happened around 8:30 p.m. at the Dollar General located at 9th Street and Girard Avenue.
Police say a man tried to rob the store when he was shot in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The store manager, who is licensed to carry, shot and killed a man who said he had a gun and ordered the cashier to empty the register, according to investigators.
However, police say the suspect did not have a weapon, but he was in possession of an object that looked like gun.

“No one should have to die for what he done.”
I don’t imagine anyone will be blaming the gun for shooting him.
“Play stupid games, win stupid Prizes”
That Manager may be thinking: “Our merchandise may be cheap, but my life is not!”
He won’t be doing that again.
Where is my kleenex? I need to blow my nose.
Good shooting. The manager doesn’t need to give it another thought. He did a good thing.
Nope. Now come the civil lawsuits from the robber’s family. The process is the punishment.
Per Professor John Lott in his important book, “More Guns, Less Crime,” the #1 factor as regards reducing criminal activity in cities & towns is the prevalence of concealed carry weapons. The scumbags do significantly less crime in areas where they don’t know who may be armed and is ready & willing to shoot off their @$$es.
How was are people suppose to get stuff like designer clothes and sneakers, newest cellphone, gold chains, drugs and concert tickets?
Need a photo for my DEAD THUG GALLERY.
Twister, I whole heartedly agree. A prosecutor friend of mine makes the observation that armed robbery or residential burglary are both hazardous professions here in Oklahoma.
The feel-good story of the day.
The store manager should be elected mayor of Philadelphia.
I know you’re right.
Stupid, a dollar store ? How much could he get away with anyway ?
That is the real societal value in incidents like this. Real, tangible, improvements to the actual society where they occur.
Not the robbery. The expiration of whatever male or female violent criminal thug.
