No, they do not have the highway back. There are several groups of Russian troops sitting on the highway from Zhitomyr and from Korosten have Russian troops sitting on them and the bridges have been blown. There might be places where the Ukrainians control the highway, but they have to control it ALL to get supplies in.
The Russian only have to sit in one place and control the air. They don’t have to move at all and watch the Ukrainians starve in the cities.
Taiwan is more important to the world.

The place is important too, as a choke point for the western routes of international trade to and from Korea and Japan. But that can, with some cost, be worked around.

The Brest Litovsk highway has one bridge destryed, at 50.446924307692676, 30.23516046713694, which controls access from Zhitomyr to Kiev, with Russian troops solidly in control of the surrounding area. Nothing is coming through to Kiev from there.
Everything north goes near the Antonov/Hostomel; airport, which Russia controls although Ukrainian forces have been trying to regain it. Nothing goes through this region at all, the Russians totally control the area and blow every vehicle moving. Remember, this is the area where the convoy sat for days, making sure nothing moved without their permission.
The areas southwest of Kiev have had pretty much all bridges destroyed and movement of heavy munitions and supplies would be very slow, and done at night to avoid targeting.
This is why Zelensky’s pleas for help have become more desperate as the days pas. The troops in Kiev are running out of everything and Zelensky sees his end approaching.
I do not support this invasion, nor do I support US involvement with the extremely corrupt governments of Ukraine or Russia, but I am a realist and know that area pretty well. Kiev is effectively cut off from resupply, just like Soviet doctrine says. Momentary victories on different parts of the battlefield are not going to change that.
Will Russia win? Maybe the war but definitely not the “peace” that follows. All Putin’s plans went up in smoke when Zelensky decide to stay in Kiev and not bug out like any other ruler would have.

We are helping the Ukrainians against the Russians. The Ukrainians are actually doing the fighting for their country, not our troops.
We helped the Afghanistans against the Taliban. But unlike the Ukrainians, it was our soldiers doing the fighting and dying.

Verified Russian losses are beyond, at this point, the wildest imagination of what anyone expected. Formally, Russian numbers have recently been released that puts the dead at something like 7000 Russians with 16,000 injured. Other estimates put Russian losses in the tens of thousands. There are verifiable huge losses of tanks, armor, supply trucks, and air power. None of this is "propaganda." It is verified and confirmed, even if the total number of dead Russkie Orcs and Goblins is undetermined.
If this is what you call "winning," I'd hate to see what you call losing! Analysists, which predicted an easy victory for Russia, are now expecting a long prolonged war and stalemate... but then, just over the past 48 hours, it seems Ukraine might even completely ruin Russia's northern aggression. What happens to Russia's forces in the East and South when one wing of the invasion collapses?

Russian losses in Chechnya over a decade was about 3.5 thousand.
Russian losses in Ukraine in 3 weeks is a minimum of 7000 and 16,000 wounded.
