Keith Richards offered his thoughts on Eric Clapton's COVID-19 vaccine skepticism in a new interview.
The Rolling Stones guitarist discussed Clapton's "old-fashioned" views on vaccines in a new episode of Rolling Stone's Music Now podcast. "I love Eric dearly. I've known him since forever, and we've had ups and downs," Richards said. "This COVID thing, it's split people up and made people sometimes go awry for a while, you know?"
Clapton has been an outspoken critic of vaccines and vaccine mandates, criticizing the United Kingdom's lockdown measures in a series of songs written with Van Morrison. He also collaborated with Italian vaccine skeptic Robin Monotti on his solo single "Heart of a Child," which he released in December.
Although Clapton insists he isn't an anti-vaxxer, he said he has been "ostracized" by friends, family and fellow musicians due to his controversial opinions and songs. He also vowed to not to play at venues that required proof of vaccination on his fall 2021 tour, though he ultimately reneged on that promise.
"I just want to get rid of this damn thing, and the only way I can see us doing it is everybody does as the doctor says," Richards added. "I don't understand quite why some people are getting so wound up about it. You wouldn't get wound up about the flu or something, you know what I mean? And that's even worse. And I'm no doctor, but hey, this thing works in various nasty ways on people, and we all have to bear with each other. We all have to have a little sympathy."
Elsewhere, Richards said he received a note from Paul McCartney after the former Beatle described the Stones as a "blues cover band," which led to some good-natured ribbing between both artists. "Paul and I know each other pretty well, and when I first read it, I said, 'There's been a lot of deleting and editing going on here,'" Richards said. "And the next day I got a message from Paul saying, 'If you've read this shit, it's all out of context, believe me, boys.'"
Keith doesn’t “address” it at all. Doesn’t wade into the controversy or criticize Clapton at all. Dumb headline.
Clapton had severe side effects from the poison death shot.
Keith is too brain dead to know that.
I saw EC in October of last year, with Jimmy Vaughn as the warm up. Great show. No vaccine papers required, nor masks. I am an even bigger fan now.
There was nothing in the article that the reason Clapton is opposed to the vaccines were the reactions he had and that he felt he might not play again. If Richards had those reaction he just feel very differently, especially if he had a reaction where he could never play again.
He looked like death warmed over 40+ years ago, when I saw him with The New Barbarians. We were on the wall (”festival seating” back in the day), and he was 10’-15’ for most of the show.
But he would not have if he had known the reactions he ended up having.
🎶...Here comes your 19th Covid Booster...🎶
He looks older. But I’m sure he’s much younger.
LOL! Nevermind! Thought you were talking about Keith!
It’s just a little pin prick… I do believe it’s working … goood…
“There’ll be no more *aaaaagh!* But you may feel a little sick...”
For three weeks.
(At some time, the thought had to occur to him that he might never get it back.)
Everybody wants to go after the guy for being skeptical about the clot shot, but nobody seems curious to ask about his negative reaction to it.
I'm sorry, but that is simply not how things are done now. We demand conformance with our opinions, ideas, and ideals vice pain of being ostracized and demonized. There will no longer be any "celebration of diversity" or such drivel. We demand strict conformance with the message and the edicts.
Sadly, not satire. That is the left today. Once a worthy intellectual adversary with arguably valid positions worthy of debate, now reduced to a fascist clown.
LOL! 😆
From the same people who told you not to trust anyone over 30...
...until they turned 30.
She don’t lie. She don’t lie. She don’t lie...
The very LAST people you’d want to get health advice from are musicians. Don’t believe me? Check the actuarial tables.
I also find Clapton to be vastly overrated. But he's not as arrogant as Keef. And he had lightning strike 3x in his career.
“Just do what the doctor says”. Sorry Keith, but when it comes to COVID, I follow the rules the way Keith Moon followed the rules for hotel guests, when the Who was on tour.
Clapton has injuries from the “vaccine”.
