Nebraska Senator Megan Hunt Says Owning Guns Isn't a God Given Right

Super "woke" Nebraska senator Megan Hunt tweets,

"Owning a gun isn't a "God-given right." It's a slave-owning, misogynistic founding father-given right. I'm not against 2a, but be real - the Constitution was written by people! Today I'm filibustering a bill that would allow concealed carry without training or a permit. #NELeg"

There's nothing more annoying than the super woke millennial Karen.

People like Megan Hunt don't see people as humans they see people as nothing more than a walking talking canvas of Identity politics.

Megan Hunt attempts to point out how the people who drafted the Second Amendment were slave-owning misogynists.

As a result, all the black folk and women should see themselves as victims of the Second Amendment instead of being empowered by it.

This logic is ironic considering the first Gun Control Laws were racist as F**K!

Everyone on this planet has a natural right to self-defense, and the most effective tool to defend life is a firearm; therefore, we have a natural right to own a firearm.

The Second Amendment doesn't give us that right, the second Amendment was written to protect our natural right to own a firearm.

It's clear as day that Megan Hunt doesn't know or understand what the Second Amendment means and she's a senator.

If we lived under a government which made gun possession illegal, can we, as Christians, refuse to relinquish our guns under the pretext that it violates our God given obligation to protect our family? I don’t believe so.

I strongly disagree. I think I'm in pretty good company as well.

God is not even mentioned in the Constitution. It is a man-made construct. Though the founders believed in a creator/god and were well-studied in the Bible, most - if not all - were not professed Christians, i.e. believers in Jesus Christ.

The 18’th Amendment took away the right to alcohol, which was given back in the 21’st Amendment. So, in this sense I would say that the Constitution can give and take away rights within a legal sense. Whose to say whether or not the 2’nd Amendment is repealed in the future.

Of course one could argue that the formation of the U.S. was ordained by God, the Constitution was inspired by God, and that “rights” are defined outside of law and governments.

Then vote her out at the earliest opportunity.

I do not believe that voting works anymore. Maybe it never worked as well as I once thought it did.

I have a sentimental fondness for voting myself. As compared to "other methods" of replacing politicians.

It seems these days that when Democrats count the "votes", Democrats win the "elections". Game over.

I sure do miss "Rule-of-Law". Everybody is going to hate the new rules, when we all start playing by them.

Maybe so, but not based on Christian principles.

sorry friend, the Constitution doesn’t give rights. It preserves your G_d given rights from infringement by the Feds.

***I DO think so. Christians have had weapons to protect their families since long before they were ever held illegal.

When the pope outlawed crossbows to protect the social order of the day, was it the christians’ responsibility to obey? Nope.

Jesus said “Give unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s, and Give unto God that which is God’s.” Giving up your right to keep and bear arms is not giving to Caesar that which is Caesar’s, because Caesar is taking what is NOT his.

The key to my statement is, “as Christians”. Meaning, as a Christian following the instructions of the Bible I don’t believe one should refuse to relinquish firearms to the government if required to by law.

There are the actions of Christians, and there are actions of Christians based on Biblical directives. These don’t always coincide. Refusing to comply with the government over possessions does not convert a Christian into a non-Christian.

It is a Constitutional-given right.

WRONG!

The rights listed in The Bill of Rights (a separate document) are not GRANTED by the document, but AFFIRMED. These rights are God-Given (NATURAL) rights.

Read the actual documents, and the Federal Papers, and you will see exactly what the Founders did for their posterity. It is an amazing journey of discovery.

I've posted this before and I'll post it again....

"The Right To Bear Arms" (the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution) makes women MORE EQUAL than the ENTIRE century-old feminist movement.

This Demoncrat woman office-holder is so befuddled she doesn't even know what side of her radical ideological indoctrination she's on.

Of course there are grey area issues in-between on which we must pray and follow our convictions.

The Constitution, including the Bill of Rights, doesn’t give rights.

Those come from God.

What the Constitution does is enumerate those God-given rights and restricts the power of government to infringe upon them.

Our Constitution is unique in that it is the only one on the planet that exists to protect the citizenry from its governmemt.

(a separate document)

These first ten amendments to the Constitution became known as the Bill of Rights. It is a separate document in the same way each subsequent amendment is a separate document. They are amendments to the Constitution.

The Constitution, including the Bill of Rights, doesn’t give rights. Those come from God.

Whose definition of God? Did the 18'th Amendment (prohibition) come from God? What about the 21'st (repeal of prohibition)? And what about the three-fifths compromise? Saying that the Constitution enumerates God-given rights is a very slippery slope.

God is not even referenced in the Constitution, but if you go back to the Declaration of Independence the references "Creator", "Laws of Nature" and "Nature’s God" are used. These are very nebulous terms. The founders believed in a creator/god and were well-studied in the Bible, but they did not subscribe to a particular faith.

The Constitution and it's Amendments are man-made constructs. One could argue that they are (imperfectly) inspired by God. But to claim that our rights, outside of those enumerated in the Bill of Rights, Statutes, etc., are handed down from God is an act of faith that won't hold up in any court of law.

This is why I don't subscribe to the statement that gun ownership is a God-given right.

Splitting hairs by deciding not to use God in a word, would not be a construct of the DEIST Founders. God is NOT a Christian construct, in any case, exclusively. But you have made an argument of sorts.

Natural Rights are God Given, or Deist Given or held to be those Universal rights that cannot ever be “Given” by the Government described in the Constitution of the United States of America.

Take a look at Professor Eastman’s views on this as a true Constitutional Scholar. And, thanks for your dialogue.

As to the 18th Amendment it dealt with the Revenues that would have to be paid for legal Spirit Liquors, distilled from anything. Revenue division enforcement federally enforced the non-production because the production without paying revenues (a vicious circle) was illegal and the law was (and still is) specific on the limits of private production of self-use beer and yes, grain/vegetable derived ethanol in any %-age is banned even for self use technically (ie. if one were to be discovered or.. turned by some a@@hole- you can’t sell it of course).

Keep in mind the enforcement of all the “sin” derived revenues is done through B-A-T-F-E. Tobacco is legal, Alcohol is legal, Firearms are legal and explosives licensed legal. But you make some arguments worthy of further discussion.

The Creator is God in any sense and you are correct as to “what one could argue” ! Thank you again!

I disagree. God gives me the right to make the decision to do good or evil. Heck, he even gave Hitler that right. But it doesn’t mean God condones it.
