A 13 year-old boy blamed for a crash that killed himself, his dad, six students and their golf coach set his house ablaze shortly before Christmas, a family friend has claimed.
The unidentified youngster, killed alongside eight other people in Andrews, Texas, on Tuesday, burned down his family's home after leaving eggs unattended on a stove, family friend Aganetha Siemens said.
'Just before Christmas, their house burned down,' she said. 'The 13-year-old made some eggs and forgot about it.'
She is not related to the boy or his dad, Heinrich Siemens, 38. Heinrich was a father of five, with his family part of the Mennonite church.
The youngster was driving the family's Dodge truck when it crossed the median onto the wrong side of the road, slamming into a bus carrying eight University of the South West golf students, with six of those golfers and their coach all killed.
Aganetha told DailyMail.com: 'I couldn't imagine going through all that and then to have this happen,' she said. 'It's just so sad.' She added that no-one had been hurt in the blaze.
Funeral services are being planned at the Mennonite Evangelical Church in Seminole, Texas, where the family lives.
Two male students were pulled from the wreckage of Tuesday's crash alive and airlifted to hospital.
The NTSB revealed the age of the driver on Thursday, but have yet to identify him. They said that the car the boy was driving suffered a front-left tire blowout, and that that tire was a spare.
They have not offered further information on why he was driving, how he was related to Siemens.
The legal driving age in Texas, where the fatal accident took place, is 16 years old.

Second what stupid ass parent lets their 13 year old drive more so after he burned the house down after forgetting he was cooking something?
Little bundle of joy, apparently.
Weird stuff.
Kid was snakebit.
“Second what stupid ass parent lets their 13 year old drive”
Or lets him cook.
No wonder those guys stick with horses.
Bundle of joy or just retarded? Seriously. I’ve heard these communities have a certain kind of mental retardation that comes from inbreeding. They have intermarried for so long their gene pool is one strait line. Sounds like this family has it, or should we say had it.
Dear God!
And I though I was a disappointment to my folks.
Why the F was this kid driving!?
Gotta be more to this odd story...
The Amish and the Mennonites are different sects. Mennonites have cars and trucks and cell phones. They just prefer to be less dependent on the supply chain.
I get your point, but the Mennonites are not Amish. I deal with a lot of them in the area, and they tend to be fine folks. In fact, I was in both Andrews and Seminole Tuesday morning- I’m saddened to hear of this.
Some say he were driving on a spare tire that failed causing the swerve.
I still think he certainly should not have been driving.
But Good tires are always important.
Mennonites drive automobiles. Old school Amish don’t. However when the old school Amish need to travel long distances they are known to travel with Mennonites who often have large vans for such things.
I’ve been to gas stations and seen all of them unload to go in and use the bathroom.
Poor Jethro… he never WAS “right in the head”…
All Almish are Mennonites but not all Mennonites are are Almish. Kind of li!e all Baptist are protestant but not all Baptist are Southern Baptist.
Mennonite are NOT Amish. Same roots, different practices. Amish do NOT own trucks.
I never said they were not fine folks as a whole just these parents made an over the top stupid choice that most parents I know of would not have done.
Most parents I know would not trust their 13 year old to drive a golf cart, much less a truck.
Yea, I figured, just having fun with them...but what the hell was this dad thinking!!! As to starting a kitchen fire, I’ve come close enough, and I was far older than 13. The fact it burned down a house is what happens when you do start a fire.
I’ll bet the kid’s name was Damion.
“They just prefer to be less dependent on the supply chain.”
Since I live near a Walmart, I also don’t have to worry about the supply chain...they have EVERYTHING!
Thirteen year olds are plenty old enough to cook and many drive tractors. Looks like the tire blowout might have been the issue.
