The research is the first peer-reviewed comprehensive investigation into the excess deaths seen around the world over the past two years since the pandemic began.
A new study published in The Lancet is offering the first peer-reviewed investigation into the global death toll of COVID-19. By tracking excess death data from nearly 200 countries across 2020 and 2021 the study estimates more than 18 million deaths from COVID-19, a number that is three times higher than official estimates.
Since the pandemic began in early 2020 researches have looked to excess death data as the best way to track the true mortality toll of COVID-19. From year to year total death counts in a given country are generally remarkably consistent. After accounting for growth in population, researchers can identify the impact of events such as natural disasters or wars by looking at the rate of death in excess of what could be normally expected.
Over the last two years researchers looking at excess death data have consistently suggested the official COVID-19 mortality figures are dramatically undercounting the real toll of the pandemic. A study last year estimated the real COVID-19 toll from the first year of the pandemic is likely more than double the official count.
This new study, led by the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, is the most thorough excess death investigation to be published so far in the pandemic. Weekly or monthly all-cause mortality data spanning 2020 and 2021 was collected from 74 countries and 266 states or provinces. Data was also gathered for the 11 years prior to the pandemic.
This data was used to create several models that could estimate excess death figures from 191 countries and territories. Overall, the researchers calculated 18.2 million excess deaths around the world .....

The way I heard it is that we haven’t heard anything from Fauci recently because he caught the ‘rona and is himself presently on a ventilator.

Given two years plus of JHU, worldometers, statista and the Gates funded Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington, the highlighted assertion above is an interest "tell."

The study at Scimex is a re-pub from the Lancet, and the Lancet has published "Lead author Dr Haidong Wang, of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, USA...." which is that Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington

From the IMHE at U of W, one reads ""Although reported COVID-19 deaths between Jan 1, 2020, and Dec 31, 2021, totaled 5.94 million worldwide, we estimate that 18.2 million (95% uncertainty interval 17.1–19.6) people died worldwide because of the COVID-19 pandemic (as measured by excess mortality) over that period."

But wait, didn't the same source say "To date, only 36 countries have released cause of death data for 2020."
If so, then a whole lot of estimating is going on, looking "sciencey" but if the data set is as incomplete as above, the estimating is just that, estimating.
For a sample of the Gates-funded IMHE's fine work, please see the graph over the pandemic's length available at IMHE. As of today, this fine estimating organization still shows about six thousand deaths in China for today, with their graph of "projections" always rising sharply upward -- tomorrow. Been projecting the same "tomorrow" for over a year.

IMHE estimates, published in Lancet and re-pub'd in Scimex and then re-pub'd in newatlas bring the circular "estimate" sourcing itself to completion.
Consider the parallel to what Nancy Pelosi called the "wrap-up smear" as she described it.

Even if IMHE's new estimate, 18.2 million, is accurate as guessing can be, then ( 18.2 million Covid deaths / 7.9 billion global population ) x 100 = mortality rate of .23 % over twenty-six months.
Less than one quarter of one percent. Lead author Dr Haidong Wang probably needs to estimate even higher. The narrative requires we be innumerate. Let's not be.
The “of” versus “with” covid distinction in most fatal cases is not relevant. Most of those that died “with” covid had secondary co-morbidities that were lined up like dominos to do them in once they caught covid. Covid was the trigger that pushed the rest of the dominos over. One could argue that any other Flu or other Cold style virus or infection could do the same things but where covid was involved, there were specific sx’s and lab values that made treatments much more difficult. You take your average old guys with co-morbidities who get the flu then pneumonia and has to come to the ICU...it’s real touch and go...we give Tamiflu and antibiotics, they need blood pressure support and intubation , with good care we will save 50 to 75 per cent of them and they will at least stabilize for some length of life and quality. With covid, we do the same things save the tamiflu, give some new experimentals, supportive care, steroids and we will still lose 80 percent. It’s what covid19 specifically does in knocking the stuffings out of the liver, the blood vessels and marrow, and the lungs that makes it different from most other viral related pneumonia in the old and with those with co-morbidities.
There were USA published figures of those who died directly “from or of covid” which were about 5 percent of all covid related deaths. The rest were those with co-morbidities.
We haven’t had any covid admits to our ICU in several weeks, I think Omicron innoculated a whole lot of people against the Covid 19 strains generally. I think the vaccines need to stop...for what good they did, the risks of side effects are too great.
Far below the number they were wanting. Eugenicists wanted a 5th of the population gone with this one. “under 2 billion worldwide are more manageable.”
