Good evening everyone. I haven't been here in a while because I was infected with Covid-19 last month.
I had been ill since around Christmas time last year, but every test I took came back negative. I got progressively worse until, finally, on Jan 31st/Feb 1st I tested positive for Covid-19. I tried to ride it out the rest of that week but couldn't and I checked myself into the local hospital on Saturday the 6th of Feb. They admitted me and I spent the next six days being treated. I got the 5 day Remdesivir treatment and was also given many other medications; steroids, antibiotics, etc. In the end I came out on top. One thing that really helped me was using my CPAP machine that I used for my sleep apnea, doing breathing exercises, and ensuring that I didn't lay on one side or the other for too long of a time.
It's been a long road back and I could have just as likely died if not for the quick action and expert care I received. I'm still not 100%, perhaps 80-85%, but I'm getting my strength back as time progresses. My taste buds are all out of whack, and I haven't gotten my appetite back. Foods that I used to eat no longer appeal to me, or even taste good, and foods that I didn't once eat I now do, like cottage cheese. Whodathunk?
I'm typing this now because I got a burst of energy that I'm sure will leave as quickly as it appeared. But I wanted my friends here to know why I've been gone the past couple of months.
Thank you.
Also my wife wanted me to ask if you could taste sweets. She can eat sweets but they don’t taste as sweet as they do for others. But she can taste it. Hot foods she used to like now totally burn her mouth.
Hugs
So very sorry
Glad you beat it! Did you get to the bad Shortness of Breath / Low O2 stage?
Welcome back! So very glad you made it through. ~Q
Mom used to treat me to cottage cheese with maple syrup on top when I was a kid. I haven’t had it in 60 years, but I can still taste it! I may have to try it again soon.
My mom used to mix cottage cheese and strawberries together for my brothers and me. I like it straight now, but ah those days,
I’m been on the D3, C, Quercetin, Melatonin, Zinc, and NAC regimen since April 2020. I believe the NAC has helped my pulmonary function and reduced allergies to boot. My sinuses are more clear and its easier to get phlegm out of the lungs.
I used to get one to two colds per year and one of them would always progress to bronchitis which sometimes got really bad and usually took twelve weeks to cure. Since starting the regimen, nothing!
I also use a povidone-iodine gargle (Betadine) and nasal spray (Immunimist) at the first sign of a sore throat. Sore throats were always a reliable indicator that I was getting a cold.
I got vaxxed (Moderna) and one booster (Moderna). No COVID so far.
Yeah, there’s nothing like mom doting on you when you are a kid, is there?!
I'm sorry for your loss. It seems some families are hit hard by it at times.
Glad you were able to hunker through the Wuhan Bat Soup Special, ducttape45. Hang in there; it sounds like the worst is over.
If nothing else, many of us have much better VitD levels, which will give us better health.
Agree on the NAC- even with reduced lung function my breathing is clearer and my sinuses haven’t bothered me even with wicked Florida spring pollen.
Prayers for you brother!
Hospitals charge a fortune for Remdesivir. Vitaimin D3, Zinc, and Quercitin are over the counter and dirt cheap. No money for big pharma for those vitamins and medicine though.
Happy you beat it of course.
The usual battles are still going on with no signs of victory.
My wife and I both had the crud but managed it at home fortunately. Worse than a cold less than the flu for us.
Were you taking vitamin D before you got sick?
Good to hear you’re on the mend DT. At least you have the best kind of immunity, even if it was “the hard way”. Hope you’re back to 100% quickly.
In your absence I’ve made sure that nothing exciting has happened in the world. Well ... I might have slipped up a little ... Feel better soon! (Somehow I got lucky and was only down for a couple of days with it - strange how it hits different people differently).
Glad you’re beating it, FRiend. Been there, too.
Glad you’re on the upside
