I gotta get some herbs started! It’s almost Spring!
Hi...that pic of strawberries in planter that u posted: I purchased one three days ago at Lowes. My temp tonight will be 11 degrees. You think it will survive that cold PLUS wind?
I love strawberries but have never try to grow them.
Worked on my plan for what will go in what pot this year:
Sage and French thyme (both should return from last year)
Chive and tarragon (first chive harvest should be soon!)
Mustard and chard
Lavender and mint (both already showing they are ready for summer)
Genovese Basil and marjoram
Oregano, rosemary and Greek basil
Parsley, lemon verbena ( I have good cuttings from last year) and lemon thyme (already growing!)
Dill and Nasturtium
Johnny jumpups
Got seed starters going for dill, mustard and nasturtium. Going to try a low risk pot of seeding rosemary. My indoor parsley plant is huge. I should be able to transplant it outside soon!
My crocus that are planted closest to the house are peaking out of the ground!
Thank you for posting the thread, Diana!
I just bought a lemon tree and a lime tree that I need to grow in pots so that we can put them inside in the winter.
Does anyone have advice?
I’m hoping that they’re easy to grow because I have a very brown thumb.

My backhoe is scheduled to arrive Tuesday!!! It’s a tiny one, but hopefully I can use it to make progress on my various construction projects.
My family seems to be catching on to the fact that supply shortages and price increases are inevitable. I may end up getting help with the big garden this year. We’ll see.
What garden?
I have six inches of snow outside my window.
Maybe I will be able to join you all in May.

It snapped off cold and dumped a bit of snow and ice on Central Missouri Thursday night. Warm-up started yesterday and is expected to continue for the next few days. We should be seeing daytime temps in the upper 60°s into the 70°s for most of the week.
Spent most of yesterday doing chores outside. Put out a couple round bales for the horses. Hung a brooder lamp and installed fresh cedar shavings in the new chicken house. Cleaned up the crumble feeder and a couple chick drinkers. Baby chicks arrive on the 17th.
I’m going to slop around in the mud today and see if I can get the wall panels up on the greenhouse. Seedling heaters arrived a couple days ago.
Hello all!
Anyone have experience or knowledge about raised beds in areas where carpenter ants are prevalent?
I use lumber (2x8s etc) to build my raised beds here in the Pacific.
Northwest but have realized my soon to be new home in Texas has a lot of wood eating ants.
Does anyone have any input on raised beds in this type of area?
I don’t want to spray bug killer around my vegetable garden and I won’t use treated wood either.
Is there a way to deter the ants without contaminating my veggies?
I could replace my raised bed frames every few years....I really like the system ai have now because it gives me a place to sit in the edge of the bed while I work.
Thanks in advance.
