Pay an accountant to do your taxes. It costs like $120 or so. That means if there’s a problem, the accountant will be involved and s/he will CARE about a resolution. Software programs don’t care and they are not trustworthy.
I use H&R Block. I liked TurboTax a little better, but the price difference made me change. The version I use is $39. I don’t know about extra for State, as Tennessee doesn’t have an income tax.
I too wanted an alt, but stuck with TT. It’s just much better than everything else.
If the clowns in government were serious you would not need to purchase tax software to file electronically, they would provide it. I refuse to purchase it and have always submitted paper forms by mail.
Go the IRS website and they have a list of partners companies. Free filing using afflicted approve vendors.
I use turbotax, but if your taxes are not complicated the IRS has a webpage for free that helps you fill it out

I moved away from Turbo Tax a few years ago because their parent company made the list of Woke companies and I deplatformed all my enemies from my wallet 2 years ago.
I went to Tax Act. They’ve been pretty good.
The Big Guy, you know Uncle Joe or the President said I did not need to pay taxes..... and cousin Hunter said to say Hello IRS!
Costco: $49.99 + $19.99 state filing
I moved from TT to HR Block many years ago. Never been disappointed. Much cheaper and solid. I paid 24 dollars for federal deluxe version. It does cost 19 dollars extra to file state electronically.
H & R Block will read your old TurboTax files. I switched years ago because of TurboTax bugs.
Been using H&R for decades...
Both “in office” originally and software for the past 20-years...
Few complaints...
IMHO TT has gotten worse over the last 5-6 years to the point that I have zero confidence I’ve done it correctly. Last year we hired an accountant because of a rental property sale and trying to file in TT was an exercise in futility and madness.
I’ve started this year’s in TT but it looks even worse so far. If I had confidence in H&R I might try them, but it looks as if I’ll be finding a local accountant.
Good luck.
I wish we all the balls to not file and not pay the bastards one more cent.
Been using TT for decades. Rock solid.
Whatever you do I wouldn’t go cheap on tax software
There are several “free” software packages for filing.
If you don’t have anything complicated (lots of trades, rental property, or stuff like that) taxes are not complicated.
Look up “Free Tax”.
$59 + $49 is overpaying. You needed to shop around. It should cost less than half that.
TurboTax Deluxe with Federal plus one State purchased and downloaded from Costco is $49.99 at right now. This is not the online version. It would be the same price in store but that version is out-of-stock where I live.
It is always cheaper around New Years day, they raise the prices as you get near April 15.
My taxes are VERY complicated. Turbotax “Home and Business” edition manages to get me through it each year. *It includes one state. No audit so far...
I think this may be the weekend to get this done. Ugh.
