Neither. Fries WITH burgers.
Nope.
Cold fries are awful. Start with the fries!
Fries are intended to be eaten in the car on the way home.
Hot and fresh.
That's why they never make it home.

Some places serve those shoestring fries. While good they must be eaten quickly before they cool.
Always keep fries in their container to stay warm. Never just dump them out because they cool too fast.
These are two hard and fast rules I live by.
3rd type: alternating. Generally I grab a couple of fries to start, then start in on the burger, then some more fries, burger. Generally I’ll finish the burger first and “fill up” with the fries. About the only time I don’t alternate is if it’s a really messy burger I don’t trust to maintain structural integrity through multiple pick ups and put down. Then it’s some fries, all the burger, fill up.
I was always the third kind.
Take a bite or two from the burger and then eat a handful of fries. Repeat.
Full disclosure: I’m not really a big fan of fries.
Before. And no ketchup. Hot, crispy, salted, and lots of pepper.
I skip the fries and have cole slaw instead.
I always get the fruit cup with my soy-burger.
If you KNOW you are going to eat both, why not start with the fries?
I have never in my life eaten the fries and gone “gosh, I am just too full to eat my burger.”
However, when I have eaten my burger first, I am stuck with cold, soggy fries.
When I am trying to cut back on calories, I will eat the burger first just so it is easier to eat fewer fries.
As an aside, I got into a heated argument with a FB friend over eating McDonalds while on a diet. This same “friend” had been dismissive of my metabolic issues and claimed that weight loss was only burning more calories than you take in. She also said that it was highly unlikely that I - a 6’ tall 266 pound man - burned less than 2000 a day.
This all came about because I pointed out that a Big Mac and Large fries are 1040 calories and, if that is all you eat in a day, you should lose weight. The same butinski that insinuated that I cheat on my diets - which is why I don’t lose weight - chimed in that it is IMPOSSIBLE to eat McDonalds and lose weight.
When I pointed out previous posts where she had said that losing weight was just calories in and calories out, she lashed out and argued that McDonalds was nothing but junk and would always make you fat. So in her leftist world...

Fries first, except at 5 Guys, where the fries are so good I save them for last.
That way they do not get cold and soggy.
If you are dining at home you eat them together.
