Outlook Email Problems
Posted on 03/07/2022 10:28:49 AM PST by savedbygrace
I've been having Send & Receive email problems.
It'd taking a very long time for either function. The only email addresses I have are on Outlook.com.
Is anyone else having email problems today?
TOPICS: Computers/Internet
KEYWORDS: email; outlook; vanity
I think the problem actually began during the weekend, but I didn't notice it as a problem because I wasn't using email very much.

You have an outlook.com address?
Or are you downloading from another provider (gmail, Comcast, charter, etc?)
To: savedbygrace
Outlook is an email client but your email provider might be the source of the problem. Try logging into your email on the Web instead of using outlook and see if you can get in.

No problem for me and I have several accounts on outlook.com.
I use them to teach Microsoft courses so creating and testing outlook.com, or hotmail.com accounts is something I do every week.

“Try logging into your email on the Web instead of using outlook and see if you can get in”
Agreed.
If the web mail seems to be functioning as expected then it’s probably in the connection between outlook and the web mail provider......which is an issue I’ve had in the past.

I have protonmail and outlook. Outlook is working nominal - mail is moving per expectations.

I’ll bet a dollar it is a slow dns lookup resolving the outlook url.

No problems for me using MS Outlook to check my hotmail email (run by Microsoft). Nor with MS Outlook to check employer email (which under the hood now uses office.com for cloud email service even though my employer has a custom domain name email address).
But then, I regularly restart all of my laptops and PC's each weekend (both personal and professional ones). You'd be amazed and how many problems go away from that one habit alone.

Try 8.8.8.8 as the dns server for your pc network connection.
To: BiglyCommentary
I don’t know how to do that.
To: BiglyCommentary
I’m having the problems on both my Lenovo laptop and my iPhone.
To: savedbygrace
So probrably a home wifi serving that out via dhcp to both.
Google how to manually set your ip setting on the laptop. Do that from the iphone.
To: savedbygrace
My outlook.com email address is working. Spectrum is my ISP.

I use hotmail, access via browser.
On Sunday morning a message originally sent May 2021 apparently resent itself.
I received a puzzled reply from the addressee !!

I agree that it smells like a home network problem. I am not seeing any outages on Microsoft or Microsoft email services.

Font is small but it looked like a european based outlook server that was trying to get connected to. Those are all are round robin load balanced so if one or more were getting attacked, MS would redirect DNS to unaffected ones.
To: BiglyCommentary
That’s why my suggestion to use Googles dns server to pick up a possibly different/fresher name resolution.

The problem corrected itself without me doing anything.
Hmmmm
It’ll probably come back.
To: savedbygrace
Sounds like it mighta been a temporary issue with your web mail provider.
Anyway glad it’s resolved.....hopefully permanently 👍
