The math doesn't work. How could you get $310 too much by getting $50s instead of $20s?
If you took out $200 expecting 10 $20s and got $50s instead, it would have been $500 - or a $300 difference.
If you took out $220 expecting 11 $20s, and got $50s instead, it would have been $550 - or a $330 difference.
During my 62 years as immigrant in USA, I have opened many bank accounts, voted in 4 states as resident, received drivers licenses in 5 states of residence and NOT ONCE I WAS ASKED to PROVE my citizenship status or even permanent resident status. Only time I had to prove citizenship was when I applied for US passport.
I found a $20 dollar bill when I was 10 years old at the state fair. It was not in a wallet, just lying in the straw so I asked the nearest adults about it and they said, “it’s yours, kid.” There was no place to turn it in so I spent it on myself and my little brother. Call me greedy, that’s ok - it was 60 years ago.
Hey back then 20 bucks was some decent money. Like 133 McDonalds hamburgers...
Hey, I picked up a wad of bills about 2 in across, as I walked up to a cashier at WF in Kroger. I handed it to her and she ‘quickly’ laid it out of sight. I didn’t think twice, but I did think that if that if was my money, how happy I would be to get it back. I also was at AT&T store. Got back about 138.00. Put it in my purse. Looking back, as I turned to go and as I figured later, the money fell on the floor when I pulled out my keys. The clerk had looked over at a man setting at the counter and sort of looked down like he saw something but I’ll be damned if he didn’t say something!
I NEVER just drop bills in my purse anymore.
I always figured that if I work hard for my money, other people do too. So, I would never think about taking some wad of cash I might find without trying to find out who it belonged to. Besides, it just feels right.
I found a wallet with $2,000 in it and returned it to the cops, who returned it to the owner. Where’s my news story? (Waaaaaah! No thanks.)
You’re right. My weekend brain is kicking in. It was $210 too much. I requested $140 and it gave me $350. Mea culpa.
“After verifying his identification, the cops reunited the relieved fellow with his money pouch, which, incredibly, still had all the contents inside, including the four grand.”
They then told him that carrying that much cash was “suspicious”, confiscated it under civil forfeiture, and that it will take 5 years and $10,000 in legal fees to get it back. Welcome to America.
Don’t take is personal, I wasn’t trying to question your integrity. I love word problems and always try to work them out when I come across them.
Who has 4k in their wallet other than illegals who just cashed their Cuomo checks.
I still wonder if the right person got the money. It was laying up against the counter in front of the clerk so she had to know who it belonged to. It couldn’t have been laying there more than a few minutes. I hope she was honest.
Well, the only honesty you can control is your own. You did what was right.
I did steal candy bar when I was about 10, old enough to know better. Got caught. Never again. I would have to work at to think about stealing. Comes natural with some.
When I was about 6, we lived in a town of about 20 to 30 houses. I remember eating a turnip from a neighbor’s garden. Probably more than once. Love turnips. She never said a thing. Bless her heart.
