Ah gotcha thanks for that.
Oh for the want of a wrist strap
If the moon is as flat as the earth, I'd be more concerned with it spinning on a coins edge with an off center strike. Think of what that could do to our tidal system.
China drops rocket bits everywhere
Someone out there will find a use for it- “re-purposed space debris”- I can see it being turned into art; furniture; storage containers, etc.
Ben my thought for years.
Ask him if he wants it.
My parents kept a lot of stuff from my childhood that I now have. I’m very glad of it.
Hey that’s a win win.
Get paid to recover it and then sell it to artists etc. Great idea!
After launching my egg scrambler a few times, i grabbed my gerbil and put him in the clear payload section. Hit the button and up he went. Only 2 of the 3 c6-5s ignited. Leaned over at about 300 feet and like a cruise missile headed for the woods nearby. I found the upper and lower sections of the rocket but the nose cone popped off and no gerbil to be found. Poor little guy had a good ride tho’ pretty sure he lived. And had a good story to tell at the rodent bar that night.
The Moon is slowly moving away from the Earth at a rate of about 3ft per year.
Thanks. I did just that after my earlier posts and he replied "Let's go launch it again!" He's 31 now. We are going to do that for old times sake.
He lives in a very small apartment so he has to be be very selective about what to keep. He and I have been going through his room to figure out what he wants to keep.
I've been doing the same thing with our two girls. They've taken lots of keepsakes and mementos, but I'm also offering other very useful things like camp stoves, camp chairs, and other good camping gear. Both of the girls have houses, so they have more room to store things.
In other words, if the moon capsizes?
That would be 3.8 centimeters per year.
I stand corrected. 3.8 cm per year is precisely right. Thank you.
I did a mouse I got from a guy who used them for snake food.
The mouse lived, at least until it got fed to his snake.

Hi.
I was trying to avoid this thread, but can’t now.
Estes rockets. First we did doodle bugs. Test was successful. Then we did a palmetto bug. Then we graduated to the two engine Gemini (?). Ring neck snake successful.
Then we tried the mouse. Don’t ask.

It does rotate: one revolution per day.
It never turns where you can see the other side of the moon. We always get the same view.
“ Gravity from Earth pulls on the closest tidal bulge, trying to keep it aligned. This creates tidal friction that slows the moon’s rotation. Over time, the rotation was slowed enough that the moon’s orbit and rotation matched, and the same face became tidally locked, forever pointed toward Earth.”

Told ya!
you would think and article like this would include the impact speed...
Set up a model yourself and observe: Use one ball to represent the earth. Use another to represent the moon. Draw a smiley face on the moon. Hold it several inches from the earth, and then point the smiley at the earth. Now orbit the moon around the earth keeping the smiley pointed toward the earth. In order to do that you must rotate the moon once about its axis.
