The Boston accent was ranked as the most annoying in the U.S., according to a new survey, but it also ranked among the top 10 smartest and sexiest.
Preply, a Brookline-based online language learning platform, took a survey of more than 1,700 people across the country on the most loved and hated accents. The Boston accent came out on top as the most annoying, followed by the Midwestern accent.
When it comes to the sexiest accent, Boston ranked number six out of 10. The top spot was taken by the southern accent.
Boston also came in sixth place for the most trustworthy accent. The Midwestern accent took the number one spot for trustworthiness.
Bostonians scored higher for sounding smart, coming in at number four, with the New York accent taking the top spot.
I’d have to agree with that ranking.
“Baston”
Did you watch Good Will Hunting haha? We don’t pronounce it that way.
The closest phonetic spelling would be Bawstin
Nice article, just the right time to separate set of people based on something that does not matter at all.
Is the author russian or jersey shore?
I don’t find accents annoying. I find them interesting.
Except for Canadian accents, which should be illegal in the US.
I live in the Boston area.
It is like culture shock whenever i travel regarding the level of friendliness i encounter...
Have friends in Europe that are multi-linguist. They say the way Chicago speakers sound are they way American english sounds to them - as you indicated nasally and whiny
I’d agree...
It’s a rare combination that makes one sound arrogant and ignorant at the same time.
When he was campaigning in Iowa, addressing a crowd of farmers, he posed the rhetorical question, "What's wrong with the American fah-mah today?" One of the farmers called out, "We're stah-ving."
Well, there was Major Winchester’s Boston accent on M*A*S*H, I wonder if that was a realistic depiction? I don’t recall hearing one being depicted or imitated on St Elsewhere, save for William Daniels’ Dr. Craig character.
Im from Boston area and when traveling people would think i have a foreign accent.
I really don’t think its that bad...
On a forum that uses avatars one guy used Marvin the Martian and when I read those posts it was usually in Marvin’s voice.
Especially when asking a question.

Snowbirds
The Baltimore accent is the worst
LOL
Any Occupied Blue State accent is annoying.
So, in these dangerous days of pandemics and Russian invasions, this is good shit to know.
Such as Hillary and Chelsea, peppering their conversations with “like” and “you know.”
It is a slang the natives are taught from baby to adulthood.
I’m
I have a great Boston Accent.
