Minnesota House passes 'Crown Act' hair discrimination bill

The Minnesota House of Representatives passed legislation with bipartisan support Monday that would make it illegal to discriminate against someone because of their hairstyle.

The “Crown" Act, an acronym meaning “Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural hair," would add hairstyle and texture to a provision in the Minnesota Human Rights Act that prohibits racial discrimination in housing, employment and education, among other areas.

Agbaje cited an incident when an employer banned hairstyles worn by Black employees like afros, braids and dreadlocks, and proceeded to fire employees who refused to cut their hair once the policy was put in place. The bill, she said, would prevent such incidents while removing added stress felt by Black employees and students to conform in the workplace by using chemicals to straighten their hair.

Fourteen states have enacted similar laws against hair discrimination, according to a coalition of organizations campaigning for the legislation.

On the federal level, Minnesota Democratic U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar last year joined four Black congresswomen in reintroducing the legislation in the House and sending a letter to Vice President Kamala Harris asking for her support. Democratic U.S. Sen. Cory Booker, of New Jersey, has reintroduced a companion bill in the Senate.

once again, blacks can’t follow rules, so we must change the rules to show how ‘woke’ we are.

I found that people with funky “LOOK ART ME!” hair don’t do well in interviews anyway.

Why not bones through the nose? What if the foreman of the jury Judge at your trial was wearing a bone through his nose?

How would you like to go to Social Services, and be forced to deal with a civil servant wearing war-paint and a feather headdress? And his boss is wearing a dhoti and slapping imaginary mosquitos off of himself with a "native" swatter?

All contributing to the not-so-gradual erosion of mainstream cultural norms and standards. The end-goal is the destruction of our society.

Regards,

Not all blacks. Black Philly pastor Gino Jennings condemns the log hair on men, calling them ‘hos’ to fashion, and that log hair on men is against nature. He also rips the women for dying their hair.

People point to the Nararite vow (Samson, John the baptist). In those cases they were not to cut any hair on their head at all for their entire life, and drink no alchohol.

Remember the days of spiked hair?

I still remember when a guy working for Rolls Royce was let go because he had spiked hair. They felt he did not represent their company.

Well, he didn’t.

So, the Minnesota house wants to force employers to hire people whose appearance chases customers or clients out of their businesses.

That makes perfect sense.

Yea, but now they will be able to sue you no matter how bad their interview went - and it will be up to the employer to prove that it wasn’t because of the hair.

One person complains about something stupid they write and pass laws.

Half the country complains about these stupid laws and we’re told to “sit down and shut up”.

No. A Nazarite vow could be for life, or for a limited period. Paul took a Nazarite vow for a limited period. He cut his hair once he arrived at Jerusalem.

I’ve seen such hair “styles” completely push away a hard hat from becoming anything more than a decoration.

Most black woman wear wigs anyway.

Now-a-days, female nurses working in big hospital networks (Lehigh Valley Hospital) have ugly tattoos on their necks and can barely speak proper English. I’ve seen it directly.
