Nuclear Survival in South Carolina
SC Fema ^ | September 1990 | Fema

This is the nuclear target map for South Carolina, but remember, fallout can go anywhere or everywhere (and probably will). After you have looked at this map look at the Information for South Carolina that follows it.

If you want a good site to check out the size of devastation and effects, look at this site. NukeMap by Alex Wellerstein at https://nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/. You can use historical and proposed nuclear bombs. It shows a lot of the blast, thermal and radiation zones in sizes from the detonation point.

As for fallout (if you are not on the target site), you need to get an idea of what targets are in the area and if the attacks on them will be “Air Burst” or “Ground Burst”. If they are air (usually for soft targets such as cities), there will be little fallout even if you are downwind. Ground burst are used for hard targets (such as missile silos or something like the Cheyanne Command center) and this where the fallout generally will derive from.

Nuclear Weapons have three primary effects: Blast, Heat and Prompt Radiation. Generally the break down of energy is 55% Blast, 35% Heat and 10% Prompt Radiation (Nuetron bombs just change the percentages around, about 45% Blast, 20% Heat and 35% Prompt Radiation).

Blast and Heat effects are generally understood. Prompt Radiation is that initial radiation burst when the bomb detonates, usually very powerful and short range (radius size is very related to size of the warhead) and instant, it doesn’t linger. Fallout comes from the Prompt Radiation blast irradiating any dirt and debris blown up into the atmosphere (that’s why very little in an Air Burst).

This is the general idea. For general knowledge, there never was enough nuclear weapons to destroy all life on the planet (to explain that would take another long essay). Other than a few minor powers (such as Pakistan and India), the overall numbers and megatonnage of explosive power has gone down in the last couple of decades. A nuclear detonation in a major city is going to create horrendous devastation, but it doesn’t end the world.

I still remember the maps from the 1960 Nuclear war booklets handed out by the government.

“I have a go bag,”

Excellent, SC gets hit by hurricanes.

” but in the event of a nuke strike where would you go?”

If we aren’t killed in the intial attack, GA mountains.

Of course plans like weather can change.

--- "I think the author is: Bruce Beach Nuclear Survival Resources & Ark II Fallout Shelter Site. I'm not Shane Connor."

Bruce Beach is rather famous in some circles. But Shane Connor, who might be related to Beach, is definitely in Texas. And he operates a number of sites and pages related to various states. Here's West Virginia's "blast."

http://ki4umm.ki4u.com/nuclearsurvival/states/wv.htm

Then: http://www.radmeters4u.com/index.htm registered to KI4U, Inc., Texas in 2001-05-17

So one site domain name "owns" the other. As to this Bruce Beach, one can enjoy some photos of the fellow. Such as:

http://radmeters4u.com/bruce2.jpg

Of Bruce Beach -- in Canada -- one reads: "An Ontario man is fighting to protect his survival shelter from being shut down. It's called “Ark Two.” Bruce Beach had it built 35 years ago from 42 school buses that now lay buried under two feet of concrete and 14 feet of earth on his property in Dufferin County, about 100 kilometres northwest of Toronto. Fire officials in the area think the bunker is a hazard. They want it permanently welded shut ahead of a survivalists’ summit on the grounds this weekend which is expected to attract hundreds of people from across North America."

Not being Shane Connor and probably not Bruce Beach, you nonetheless posted their marketing based on "fear."

In this moment in time, we seem to be awash with fear -- nuclear war is just around the corner, but "wear your mask" because of Klaus Schwabs' "COVID-19: The Great Reset" (July 2020) to tell us "what's coming" is here!" Good news! Don't forget that insurrection and white supremacy and an upswing in racism and so much more to be feared is coming. Fear, It's on the menu. Tasty. Profitable. It's the Quicker Picker-upper. Just do it! Re-imagine. I'm Lovin’ It. It Could be You. The miracles of Science. Buy it. Sell it. Love it. It's Everywhere u want to be. Make Believe. Think Different. All the News That's Fit to Print. I represent science. Two weeks to flatten the curve.

But especially "The Good News About Nuclear Destruction!"

Ah well. Have a good day.

Old saying in the Army that goes like this...

If the balloon goes up it’s your time to die, tuck your head between your legs and kiss your ass good bye.

Thanks. No.

We're near enough to a couple of "targets" that getting far enough away in a mass panic isn't an option.

Looking at the sun makes one go blind. Just so with contemplating "boom." The end comes soon enough by the ticking of the clock. No point in setting it ahead with adding yet more stress. I'll rely on faith and watch the blast for the curiosity value. Won't have that chance too many times in life.

As the crow flys, we are about 7 miles from Mac Dill AFB.

We be Post Toasties.

7 miles? That’s nice.

I’m 4 blocks....4 BLOCKS...from the edge of Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

If I’m at home, I’ll be in the ‘instantly vaporized’ zone, or damned close to it.

A-ha! I caught you price-shopping. One must remain informed but flexible in pricing services to stay competitive.

BTW...just tried to go to the nukemap. Couldn’t get in.

I’m assuming their servers are overloaded with people trying to figure out how screwed they are.

Even if a nuclear escalation occurs, don't count yourself out. In the last 2 decades, overall numbers and sizes of arsenals have gone down. Nuclear Weapons are expensive and maintenance heavy to keep and Russia has long proven lacking in this (same for a Navy, most of theirs is rotting in port). The U.S. gave up it big weapons long ago (the Titan II with 9 Megaton warheads) as making the fusion material had too high a cost and we really don't need them (if you can tell a missile which window to hit in a building, a nuke is way overkill). Just having a nuclear bomb, doesn't mean its going to work, it takes a certain level of competence to not only get it to go off, but then deliver it around the world, and on target takes even more. If Russia has targeted a base in your area, it doesn't mean they have a 10 megaton bomb for every target. 50 Kiloton (about 2-3 size used at Hiroshima) size warheads are the most common. If you are on the target, its not going to matter if it is a 1 kiloton bomb, but if you are ten miles away, you are going to survive. A sizable percentage of Russian nukes are going to be targeted against China (no matter how friendly they seem, they really are not). So far this war has been very much conventional arms, time will tell if Russia numbers can make up for their lack of ability. Changing the DEFCON levels and putting commands on alert happen anytime such conflicts involve the major powers. Taking stock of your situation, and a little preparation can go a long way in any emergency.

So the plan is to nuke Hilton head and Mrytle Beach? And then knock out the moonshine stills? Was this map made by the 1890 Temperance Party?
