My mask is not coming off.
COVID-19 has faded, and people who continue to wear masks in public spaces are just neurotic, my husband says. “You look goofy,” he admonishes me.
On Monday, the most onerous COVID-related mandates will fall away. Customers in public spaces will no longer be required to mask up or produce proof of vaccination at restaurants, bars and gyms in Chicago and throughout Illinois.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention loosened its mask guidelines for public indoor spaces on Friday.
I am thrilled the Omicron surge is fading and eager to return to “normal,” whatever that is. But I am not dropping the mask.
I am fully vaxxed and boosted. I am among the lucky ones, having dodged the coronavirus for nearly two years. I am in no hurry to end that streak.
I remain afraid — of those who are not afraid. Those who will recklessly continue to disregard ways to keep us all safe, who refuse to get vaccinated. Those who subscribe to wacky conspiracy theories and foolish notions of freedom.
As a CTA regular, I must continue to endure fellow passengers who insist on riding mask-free, even when free masks are available on buses and trains. The most defiant are among the unvaccinated.
“Folks, be kind and conscious of your fellow neighbors and any decisions they make for themselves to feel comfortable and protected,” Lightfoot advised at the news conference.
That’s a nice sentiment, but in this pandemic, kindness is not always the rule.
COVID is still with us. I will continue to mask up in most spaces and places. For me, “goofy” is the rule.

Whatever.
Wear the mask if you like. It doesn’t affect me and I just couldn’t care less.
Several years ago I quit shaking hands with people...I had caught a nasty flu and figured a good way to avoid that again was to not shake hands...I would bump elbows, give hugs, etc...just not shake hands....some thought me weird, (esp political candidates) but didn’t care...I haven’t been sick since (minor cold a couple years ago)...and in a store I’d rather clean the shopping cart handles, than wear a mask...each to their own
I am very glad that they self identify.
I don't care what the nutcases do but I do keep an eye them because only a moron would not realize that these people are mentally unbalanced and will come after you with a hammer at some point.
When I go to the grocery store and see all those masked people they remind me of muzzled dogs. I want to sneak up behind them and bark like a junkyard dog. I don’t do it because I’m sure some would have heart attacks.
Most of us have our concerns on more serious matters.
Those who subscribe to wacky conspiracy theories that the Vaccines still work and foolish notions that masks do as well.
Do what you do, but MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!
Remember always that these types are the majority in our media.
And they wonder why no one of normal intelligence or above gives a **** about what they think?
Some are so scared they’ll wear them the rest of their lives , ah ,even though they Don’t work
“I am among the lucky ones, having dodged the coronavirus for nearly two years. I am in no hurry to end that streak.“
Uh, Karen, sweetie, you may have had it and simply not noticed . That’s the way it goes for many. Maybe someday you can think about why you a vaxed person are afraid of the unvaxxed while you wear a mask the instructions upon which say it is useless for the purpose…oh…feck… never mind…
I really wish I could specifically tell you how to eff off like I want to. Leave it at that. Otherwise. STFU
“Folks, be kind and conscious of your fellow neighbors and any decisions they make for themselves to feel comfortable and protected”
Like they respected the wishes of those who didn’t go insane over “Covid”? Nope. I’m gonna continue to make fun of the maskholes where they live. I spent two years being accosted in stores and other public places, yelled at and called names for not masking up. It’s payback time, beeches!!
Count on it! 😉
Definitely keep wearing it you ditz. It makes identifying liberals all the easier. Know who to help and who to leave lying there.
Had to check. Okay, just not the 21st Ammendment.
Moron! Masks don’t work!
So wear the mask. Your choice, I could care less.
“If anything, the pandemic has taught me this: there are a lot more submissive serfs in this country than I imagined.”
I was in the bank the last day the lobby was open before the “2 weeks to flatten the curve” started. During my conversation with the teller regarding the lobby closing, she waved her hands through the air (mimicking a curve on a graph) while saying “we need to flatten the curve”. I knew right then and there that brain washing is real.
Do whatever you want, lady. Just leave the rest of us alone.
