Leftist Journalism is Coming to a Town Near You!
American Thinker ^ | 27 Feb, 2022 | Rebecca Behrends

Leftist nonprofit organizations are training cadres of young journalists to do their bidding.

For years, local journalism has been collapsing. Between 2018 and 2020, nearly 6,000 journalism jobs and 300 newspapers vanished, a longstanding trend which accelerated with the COVID pandemic. But, not to worry, help is on the way.

Enter Report for America, an initiative of the GroundTruth Project, a nonprofit organization. They are “a national service program that places journalists into local newsrooms to report on under-covered issues and communities.” They will pay half of the salaries of the “talented” journalists they propose to place in your communities. Plus, they assist local news organizations to raise the other half of the salaries through local donors. They have reporters now in 49 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and Guam. They had 300 reporters placed in 2021 and plan on increasing that number to 1000 in 2024. Hundreds of foundations and donors support this initiative including Facebook, Google, and the Ford Foundation among others.

Not to be outdone, especially since Democrats are now in charge, the feds jumped in as well.

The Local Journalism Sustainability Act was passed in 2021 to provide a pathway to financial viability for local newspapers around the nation through payroll tax credits. In essence, journalists would “have Uncle Sam picking up half the tab for their salaries” to the tune of over a billion dollars. Keep in mind, the majority of these local newspapers overwhelmingly support Democrats.

It takes no stretch of the imagination to perceive the financial lifeline that local newspapers require comes with strings attached, namely, left-leaning journalists. And just in time for the next presidential election in 2024!

The cancer is spreading. Prognosis is poor. Communist countries have a 100% failure rate.

State run media becomes official. Not that it was any good beforehand.

They can and have put the crap sandwich out there.

They can’t make Americans eat it.

And, if ratings, circulation figures, and clicks are anything to go by, Americans are refusing in vast numbers.

Now that I think about it, this may be less about convincing Americans and more about making sure that red-lining enemediot outlets stay bought, and Deep State doing its level best to ensure no competition springs up to fill a vacuum....

The papers will continue to exist because they will be government (taxpayer) funded.

In the early 90’s, WSJ reported a study that analyzed various college majors on the rigor of their curriculum and how well the students in those majors fared on intellectual ability (SAT/ACT).

Journalism ranked second from the bottom in both categories. Even more unfortunate, education was even worse ranked at the bottom of both categories.

Print media is dead. They can hire a thousand “journalist” and it won’t make any difference.

The average age of people who read newspapers is 58!

It is a dead business. By the time the “news” is printed and delivered to your doorstep, it is already old leftwing news.

I despise the pseudo intellectual title “journalist”. I don’t want to read some libtard’s diary.

I want a reporter to give me just the facts.

Stop referring to these people a “Journalists”, they Are NOT. A journalist tells the Truth, the Whole Truth and Nothing but the Truth, including all the available known Facts.

THEY ARE PRESSTITUTES! And they are Selling Narratives completely void of FACT and TRUTH

I live in a moderate flyover metro area. The local news companies have been captured and are usually owned by bigger conglomerates. The local guys mostly operate with skeleton crews. They barely have enough people to provide any meaningful local coverage. Shootings, bad weather and sports are easy to report on..

“...report on under-covered issues...”

Like black on white crime? Like the “hate-crime” hoax epidemic?

We're already stuck with THEM.

Our local news group (that I won't watch) is a crowd of girls tricked out like cheesy cocktail waitresses and Dallas Cowgirl cheerleaders.

They routinely mouth DNC talking points and they think they're journalists

The Charlotte Observer (known locally as The Disturber) is now a shadow of it’s former self. A few decades ago, you almost needed a wheelbarrow to cart the Sunday edition in from the mailbox. Now? You could fold a paper airplane out of it and toss it towards your house.

We dropped that lib rag a good 20 years ago. I don’t even let the paper boy/girl/it put those little pieces of tape on the paper tube at the mailbox.

I watched that take-over happen in a small rural county seat over 45 years. Moved in 2020 to a smaller, poorer area that is about 50% vacation homes/resorts, etc. Here, the paper is locally owned and apparently has been for a couple of generations. And, while thin, with perhaps 4 pages of local ads, the news is local, relevant and the news pages dense with type, not colorful pics snapped by an editor with space to fill.

Oh, and there is no reflexive virtue signaling or tribal politics within the news articles. Clear, well-written and informative. Period.

They won’t succeed in taking over print here. Too small a market and there are large, affluent markets of leftists within 100 miles South & East which will keep them occupied for a while.....hopefully until I’ve passed.
