WASHINGTON, Tuesday, Feb. 25.
Gen. MCCLELLAN received a dispatch an hour since, from the West, confirming the report that Nashville, Tenn., is taken by Gen. Buell's army, and stating that the rebels have fallen back on Murfreesboro, about thirty mile south of Nashville.
St. LOUIS, Tuesday, Feb. 25.
The Republican's Cairo dispatch says, the occupation of Nashville is confirmed. Our troops took possession without opposition. FLOYD fled as usual.
The report that Gov. Harris had ordered all the Tennessee troops to lay down their arms and go home is confirmed.
The Tennessee Legislature is called for next Monday.
No opposition to Union movements is made anywhere on the Cumberland.
It is reported that white flags are flying at Memphis.
We find the following paragraph, showing the proximity of Gen. BUELL to Nashville, as early as Friday last,. the 21st, in the Louisville Journal:
We learn that Gen. BUELL, who has taken command in person, on the line of the railroad, had advanced yesterday within ten miles of Nashville. We are unadvised as to the resources of the rebels for making a stand at that point, where Gen. A. SIDNEY JOHNSTON is in command, but we cannot conceive that their routed, dispirited and demoralized troops can withstand our soldiers flushed with recent victories. We think the capital of Tennessee will soon be relieved from the rebel yoke.
CHICAGO, Ill., Tuesday, February, 25th.

Hi Professor.
So I’m reading today’s copy of the NYT thinking, wow the war is over. Or, another year and victory!
