I was just reading one of JRR Tolkien’s letters in which he expressed the idea that “government” as a concept or a process seems necessary, at least to some degree. But “Government” as a “thing”, as a faceless bureaucracy ruling over other people, is simply a great evil.
The Founding Fathers tried to give us a very weak and limited Government. But over the centuries we have not held to that vision and we now have a fascist state, $30T in debt, and a mass of people hypnotized by propaganda.
I don’t see America taking the steps necessary to turn things around.
We won’t last 400 years.
Hell we kept clicking the remote is a coup stole the presidency.

Tolkien’s Ring represents, obviously, the corrupting power of government. Almost everyone who wields it becomes corrupted by it and won’t willingly relinquish the power it gives them. The Ring eventually owns them and destroys their body and soul, such as in the case of Gollum.
That sums up our state of the union. Didn’t know JRRT wrote about politics, might have to look that up.
