I was just reading one of JRR Tolkien’s letters in which he expressed the idea that “government” as a concept or a process seems necessary, at least to some degree. But “Government” as a “thing”, as a faceless bureaucracy ruling over other people, is simply a great evil.

The Founding Fathers tried to give us a very weak and limited Government. But over the centuries we have not held to that vision and we now have a fascist state, $30T in debt, and a mass of people hypnotized by propaganda.

I don’t see America taking the steps necessary to turn things around.

We won’t last 400 years.

Hell we kept clicking the remote is a coup stole the presidency.

Tolkien’s Ring represents, obviously, the corrupting power of government. Almost everyone who wields it becomes corrupted by it and won’t willingly relinquish the power it gives them. The Ring eventually owns them and destroys their body and soul, such as in the case of Gollum.

Think of it like this. For almost two years now since DJ Trump “supposedly” left office the capital of our country has been a ghost town. The govt buildings in Washington DC are closed, abandoned and some even boarded up. There is zero curiosity in the press or even the general public about where 367,000 workers disappeared to. There is no way they are all working from home. My guess is that much of our bureaucracy which is largely unnecessary has been dismantled and will not be coming back.

Have you actually been to DC recently?

I always wondered what people meant by “the ring”, I never saw that movie about those gnomes.

“Have you actually been to DC lately?”

I don’t need to. Numerous people travel around the city videoing everyday and uploading to YouTube. Its pretty much empty.

It isn't!

I go there on business a couple of times a month. I have meetings in a number of contractor facilities and government buildings.

Traffic both auto & pedestrian is scaled back because of the scamdemic. Government workers don't need to be told twice to stay home. Many are supposedly working from home.

Before retiremwnt my wife was in commercial real estate there. NoVa & DC are both way over built. Its been that way since the 90s. The scamdemic makes it effectively worse.

That's what I like about you. You never let facts stand in the way of a fantasy!

I think you are letting the scamdemic rhetoric cloud your thinking. For all intents and purposes our government is shutdown. Two years on and there is no current reason for all the govt buildings to be shuttered. You assume because that’s what you hear that all the workers are working from home. You have no evidence to prove that. All jobs can’t be done from home.

I have been to DC many, many times as I have family there. To say the traffic is scaled back is a joke. Its non existent in downtown. Businesses are closed, most major agency buildings are not open. There are hardly even any tourists walking around. It should be a beehive.

IMO there’s no money to run the govt except on a shoestring. My BIL who retired two years ago as the number two guy at a major agency and for a time was acting director has been called back due to a severe shortage of workers. They now have him working the maximum number of allowed hours for a retired employee, flying all over the world constantly because he can walk in anywhere and do any job and they just pay him hourly. No benefits because he’s already retired with benefits. Hes just doing it because he’s bored and likes to travel.

There are many more things happening than meet the eye. Nobody seems to have any curiosity about the strange goings on in DC at the Whithouse, Capital building and odd motorcades. I seriously doubt its fantasy. And I think fairly soon we will all know why.

That sums up our state of the union. Didn’t know JRRT wrote about politics, might have to look that up.

I don’t think Tolkien was very political, but he was very traditional. He could be called a Conservative, but that might be going too far. He liked rural areas and was not pleased with industrial areas. He liked the world as it had been, which pretty much means he didn’t like the 20th century Political/ Economic systems.

This 10 minute Youtube clip on the Hobbit economy might actually say something about Tolkien’s vision —
