Jeff Bezos' new yacht in Netherlands under fire, thousands RSVP to throw eggs at itRotterdam residents furious about moving bridge to accommodate billionaire's big boat

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is the world’s richest man, and he commissioned the world’s largest sailing yacht — so big that in order to get it out to sea, he’s offering to pay to take apart and reassemble a historic bridge that it needs to pass to get out of Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

It may result in the world’s biggest scrambled eggs, if a planned Facebook event to hurl rotten eggs at the $485 million vessel is as popular as its signup sheet suggests.

Facebook user Pablo Strörmann, a Rotterdam resident, stirred up "Eieren gooien naar superjacht Jeff Bezos (Throwing eggs at superyacht Jeff Bezos)" earlier this month, inviting the "the international Egg tossing community" to bombard Bezos’ boat on June 1. More than 20,000 people had marked themselves as going or interested in going as of Wednesday afternoon.

I’m always suspicious of stories that successful people are nothing special, or just have “connections”.

Sounds like jealousy.

I’d have to do a deep dive to verify, but it fits the size. I’ve read/watched almost everything available on Glomar Explorer/Azorian, but my memory can’t be certain.

I doubt that there has only been one.

Step-father.

Understand when you’re on the inside with the “Company”, the whole family is on the inside.

Security background checks not needed for Bezos.

I worked as military-civilian government contractor under DOD mostly USAF even though I was USN, chosen because of my military engineering background. Thoroughly enjoyed working with my USAF cohort. They were some of the best mission planners I’ve ever seen.

Many are hybrid military-DOD contractors with special security clearances. The level of security clearance is often itself classified, and expires after mission completion. TS clearance is relatively low clearance.

With a kid like Bezos, all that is needed is basic fitness, no mental physical irregularities, and you’re in on the inside.

Jeff will just have to disassemble his “ship” to solve the problem.

Think what you want. I wouldn’t want anything Bezos has, too much bullcrap comes with it.

Bezos is or was not evil but he’s in the ring of evil persons.

Musk claimed he was “bipolar” giving him an out if he somehow said something favorable about Trump and such. But I believe Elon is truly gifted.

Bill Gates, like Bezos, was connected via his mother’s connection with IBM in the 70s, and IBM was part and parcel to the national security apparatus. Gates falls into the Bezos category but Bezos seems somewhat sane whereas Gates is a psychopath. That’s not jealousy, that’s fact. I can see Gates’s boat dock from my shoreline home. My neighbor, originally from England, is 20+ years with MSFT. MSFT Research was trying to rope me in after my doctorate was awarded. My late neighbor and best friend RIP, his mother lived next door to Gates’s digs in Medina. You live in this community as long as I have and you learn and confirm sh*t.

It’s not jealousy, it’s an attempt to ground people away from their hero-worship balloon rides.

I think Musk is the real deal, we’ll see. My teen son thinks he’s awesome.

One of the reasons for the super yachts for the billionaires is because when it all goes down here and the next couple years they’ll be able to get offshore and and ride it out on a compleetely stocked floating city at some tropical island for a couple years until it all settles down again

I’m sure they already have passports in hand to dozens of neutral countries and nationally tranquil island nations All the rest of us here are battling Mayham and food shortages in the street

People like Bezos are completely phony “woke” limousine liberals. He has so much money he could pay each of his employees an extra dollar or two or five dollars an hour and have plenty left over.

So what? I agree that Bezos is probably a hypocrite and recipient of a good deal of underserved luck, but why should I care? It is impossible to fence in Bezos’s freedom and opportunities without fencing my own and everyone else’s.

What no one wants to look at is the fact that a rich man’s completely unnecessary toy for Bezos was years of work for the shipyard personnel in Rotterdam, putting food on their tables, paying rent, buying cars, etc. Lots of common people benefitted greatly from this toy. How many jobs would have been created if he had just kept the money in Amazon stock?

Their engineers knew the bridge would have to be disassembled when they bid on the ship and included that cost in their bids. This is no last minute oversight, it is a pre-planned event.

And, every single one of these idiots who musters out to throw eggs at the ship is promoting future unemployment at the dockyards. Bezos is not the last rich man on earth and there will be more jumbo yachts built. Nice job there, taking your city out of the running to build the next big private yacht.

Hopefully the eggs were rotten.

As rotten as his morals.

“cover the whole canal with ropes”

Chains, like we did in The Hudson River at West Point, to keep British ships from sailing upriver.

I always found chains like this to provide good traction at low speeds...
