I settled on Crock Pot Italian Beef Sandwiches. A mouthwatering, 5-ingredient flavor combo that has just the right amount of zip and zing!
Chuck roast is slow cooked for 10 hours in a mixture of pepperoncini peppers, Giardiniera, Italian dressing mix, and beef broth then shredded and served on a chewy hoagie bun with melted provolone cheese. Crazy (CRAZY) good, and did I mention that it’s made with just 5 ingredients?

I get slices so thin, you can’t see them!
I’m gonna replace my 4.5 quart with a 2 quart. Smaller and more proper for a single fella. I get tired of finishing it all off for 3-4 days. Gotta admit I enjoy using it when I know I’ll be home all day. Look forward to the afternoon.
There is something to be said for using the high setting. Meats can dry out and lose their flavor when cooked on low for 8-10 hours.
just an iconic sangwich!
Leave off the provolone and pepperoncini. Standard Italian beef sandwiches just have bread, beef, juice, and your choice of giardinera or roasted sweet peppers (or both).
You can add cheese, or even red gravy (tomato sauce), but try the standard beef first, it’s great on its own.
Amounts for each 5 ingredients?
Vinegar or oil version of Giardiniera?
Grub
No, no, no. It’s an Italian beef sandwich, not a roast beef “au jus”.
You either spoon the juice on top of the sandwich before it is served, or dip the entire sandwich in the juice. No cup on the side.
Always oil giardinera for Italian beef.
I had never tried Italian Beef until last year when a friend took me to Portillo’s. Not sure how I could have missed these when I lived near Chicago for a year in my younger days.
Leave off the provolone and pepperoncini? WTF?!!
IMHO, an Instant Pot beats a crock pot all to hell. Much faster and juicier too.
Oil
Also good with FIERY red pepper relish.....some sub shops serve it.
I do the pork carnitas. For burritos. Taco or Cubans
works for me
It’s an Italian beef, not a Philly cheesesteak.
I think Arby’s
I like provola!
“Crock pot is fine but I bought a slicer just fot this purpose.”
Me too. Grew up in Chicago and with Italian beef.
Bookmarked.
