DENVER (KDVR) — In one year, one person was arrested six different times for stealing cars in Denver.
FOX31 Problem Solvers spoke one-on-one with Denver’s police chief about the spiking issue of car thefts and why the same thieves are getting the opportunity to strike over and over again.
According to Denver police, they arrested a man named Illya Culpepper six times in 2021 for car thefts.
Colorado Bureau of Investigations reports reflect these arrests for five car thefts in the first four months of the year and another in September.
“Something’s going on and we need to get this figured out,” Chief Paul Pazen said.

SIX times and still stealing cars? WOW!!
amateur
Buckwheat on meth?
Hopefully the perp will eventually pick the wrong car to steal, and get a bullet hole in him for his troubles.
Ilya. Obviously his parents are/were commie sympathizers.
Apt comment.
I’ll give you a clue.
Denver is a Leftist Hell Hole who elects politicians that don’t believe in property rights but does believe in Social Justice.
I know that news reports are sometimes not reliable sources for quotations. However, did the Chief actually say such a stupid thing??!
Not enough jail cells-get it? Outdoor incarceration is the answer. Make them walk to the courthouse 100 miles away-on trails. No safe way back. Backpack, sleeping bag, air horn to ward off the animals.
Everyone needs a hobby. And some folks pick more adventurous ones.
As a side note, my old college car was broken into. But I had put in a kill switch in myself. So the thief left empty-handed. But for some reason he left all his tools behind. So I ended up with a broken window, and all his tools. I guess it kinda evened out.
A Soros-backed District Attorney in Denver County refuses to prosecute these cases when the perpetrator is Black or Hispanic. Even when the perpetrator is White, most car theft cases are not being prosecuted.
It is all part of a "restorative justice" idea, in which the offenders are diverted into activities where they are supposed to repay their victims. Of course, they don't. It is all just a rationalization. It is cheaper for the counties when they have fewer people in jail.
For the common citizens who lose their vehicles - not so much.
Shoplifting? Burglary? Are these even crimes anymore? It is not clear.
This has also been seen in Jefferson County. They backed away from it under complaints from suburban police chiefs. Perhaps the Denver police are fed up too.
He doesn’t look like an Illya, or a Culpepper.
Lol. When we lived in Hollywood in the late 70s we had a Beetle. Beetles were popular theft items back then. So every time I parked the car I opened the back and took the distributor rotor out and snapped the cap back on. Twice I came out to an open car and dead battery. But never lost the car.
in western Washington state, he'd be called an intern
Seattle/king county had 1450 cars stolen in January. That's 46 a day!!
While I applaud the sentiment, booby traps are inconvenient to disarm, and it is pretty embarrassing when you forget and set one off on your own property.
Especially when they are lethal.
Wanna stop this crap? After the second offense, shoot ‘em. Auto theft will stop, just like magic. 👍
That’s the only thing that will stop him because the judges don’t seem to be bothered.
