DeLorean DMC Will Return In 2022 As Luxury Electric Sports Car...The Texas-based company that owns the rights to the DeLorean name teased its upcoming EV.

Just over a year ago, we told you that the DeLorean DMC 12 may make a return to market as a fully electric vehicle. Now, it appears the early plans may become a reality, as the company with official rights to the DeLorean name aims to launch an all-electric DeLorean DMC in 2021.

The original DeLorean Motor Company no longer exists, though there is still a DeLorean Motor Company, which isn't affiliated with the car's original maker. According to Autocar, as the story goes, former British engineer Stephen Wynne acquired the rights to the DeLorean name way back in 1995. The "new" DeLorean company is considered the world's largest source for DeLorean parts and repairs.

Wynne started making plans back in 1997 to relaunch the DeLorean DMC in small batches, though its original engine was no longer an option. At that time, it was assumed that perhaps the future DeLorean DMC could be electrified.

Now, DeLorean Motor Company has teased the modernized, fully electric DMC in a recent tweet.

As you can see, there's not yet much information. The reimagined DMC will be called the DeLorean EVolved. All we really know at this point is that it will be a luxury sports car featuring an electric powertrain.

Autocar reminds us that last year, Italdesign posted a teaser image that's similar to the car in the recent video above. Rumors suggest that Italdesign may be collaborating with DeLorean Motor Company on the upcoming EV.

Interestingly, according to the publication, Italdesign has entered into an official partnership with Williams Advanced Engineering. Autocar says the partnership will focus on "an open-source EV platform for manufacturers of low-volume cars."

Had the same thing happenmto, happen to,. The woman was driving a merced3s Benz, my junky old van pushed her car into the parking lot she was cutting across traffic to get into. The bumper just barely touched her car- no visible signs of damage. HPpened so fast- had I not hit the brakes when I did, her car woilda been smashed.

They must have modeled them on the albatross wing and not a gull.

Are they going to keep it stainless? And maybe a severely under powered and to hard to repair French power system?

Back in the 1950’s engineers were touting nuclear powered cards that would run for decades. But imagine the mess a collision would make.

In all seriousness it seems like a Sterling cycle engine would work well in a hybrid. The Swedish make a diesel submarine running a (very) quiet Sterling engine to recharge the batteries. It’s extremely efficient.

Is there some reason we don’t see the Sterling set-up on cars and trucks?

That’s my question too.

Mine still uses beer cans and aluminum foil. And some vegetable oil.

I get about 10 centuries per beer can.

Why would you want an external combustion engine in a car?

The Sterling cycle is extremely efficient and can use all sorts of fuels, the only requirement is said fuel needs to be a liquid or gas.

The engines are not good at running at different speeds, that’s why development of them for cars was abandoned in the 1970’s.

“However, they are more efficient than most internal combustion engines”

We used to ride our horses through a great blue heron rookery. They would fly low & slow over head with a huge silhouette that resembled a pterodactyl. Then they would give out that primeval “OORRKK”

I know what they are, I have one.

The depend on temperature differential, so maybe would work in the great white north, but SoCal not so much

“We can achieve this now via hybrids, and can deliver a car/truck/SUV which is powerful, economical, and fun to drive.”

We may be heading that way. We have a gas powered Lexus, that is 15 years old and a Honda Ridgeline, the first model.

We get cash offers for both vehicles on a regular basis.

My wife has a younger relative, who is a hybrid vehicle genius and has some type of contracts with both Honda and Toyota.

He sees gasoline in California and some blue states at or approaching $10/gal by this time next year. We are just under $5 in Northern Ca.

His recommendation is a Hybrid Honda and get a big rebate and sell our gas powered vehicles. The most we drive in a week is about 40 miles if we go to an out of town health clinic 15 miles away.

Keeping our car batteries charged on both vehicles is a challenge.

We have 120 volt plugs in both sides of our carport, and California PGE’s best rates are 9 pm to 1 pm the next day.

So, we could charge the vehicle at night or the next morning when we wake up at about 7 am, in our carport when it needs to be charged.

Last, but not least there is a huge cash rebate, and the car is probably good for 7 years plus, with our limited driving. No smogging inspections and free passes on a lot of freeway lanes.

I will be discussing the tax rebates with our CPA, when we have our annual pre tax meeting.

The DeLorean was designed to be junk and it accomplished that objective.

John Z. hired Formula 1 wizard and Lotus Cars founder Colin Chapman to smooth off his design’s rough edges and they immediately came to loggerheads over engine placement. Chapman tried to warn DeLorean off the rear-engine design because every rear-engined car ever made came with “a built-in spin cycle.” The original 911s, which Porsche tried (unsuccessfully) to tame by putting blocks of lead inside the front bumper, prove the point. As did the Chevrolet Corvair, which Ralph Nader sentenced to failure when he branded it “unsafe at any speed.”

So unless they straighten out the excessively rearward weight bias, it will continue to be crap.

And gull-wing doors might look cool but you’ll rarely find a car guy who has owned two of them.

Not like an EV engine weights nearly as much. They want to compensate, they’ll just put the batteries in the front.

So, could this version actually hit 88mph in a mall parking lot in real life?
