If you have a spare 10 minutes and 55 seconds, I highly recommend this YouTube. I found myself simultaneously laughing and cheering. I love this guy, I absolutely LOVE HIM. I couldn't find his name, and if anyone can please ping me. I'd LOVE to reach him or his family and tell them how much I appreciated this.

That nasty genome among the Japanese population has been almost totally extincted by their losses in WWII.

Same for the Germans.

Also saved the Russkies from occupying half of Japan, with certainly a Civil War for them to try to take the other half.

I wonder if the bomb should have been dropped on Tokyo and put an end to the so-called heavenly emperor farce.

My father wouldn’t even consider buying a Japanese car until the 78 Buick Electra he bought was a piece of crap. He finally relented in 1987 and bought Mom a Honda Accord because it was made in Ohio. Prior to that he would not even think about buying a Japanese car.

I am sure people who fought against the Germans had similar feelings against VW & Mercedes.

I have a friend who fought in Vietnam. He absolutely hates Jane Fonda.

Spent two years in Iwakuni on two different tours in the Marines. Air Wing.

Agreed on all points.

My Father-in-law, who spoke English, French, Spanish, Italian and German was posted to Pearl Harbor in early 1941, After the attack. He got reassigned to the Atlantic where his language skills would be of some use. Later that same war he got to participate in D-Day. I’ve never read of anyone who was at both.

He never said a word about it except once. His daughter and I bought new car, a Mitsubishi. He commented it wasn’t the first time he’d seen a Mitsubishi.

Iris Chang later committed suicide. There is some speculation her research into Nanking may have trigger depression. The story the book tells is hideous, nearly unbelievable.

Bump for later. Been reading a lot about the Pacific In WW2 lately. The focus is always on Hitler and Europe but our actions in the Pacific War were pretty amazing. Lot of good men gave their lives to the cause.

Agreed - unfortunately we didn’t have enough atomic weapons to kill every single living thing on those islands.

The Japanese had a fondness for staking POWS onto the ground, face up, cutting off your eyelids and then your genitals - then they would stuff your genitals down your throat with a rifle butt -laughing merrily while the POW choked to death.

I have zero sympathy for any Japanese war dead - soldier or civilian

56. There were 56 Chinese POW's alive when Japan surrendered. Not 56 thousand or 56 hundred. Just 56. And what they did in Manila shocked even the Nazis.

And now look at China. You think what the Japs did in China, just might have fueled some of the support that Mao got there?

Mao was around before the Japanese invaded.

True, but the Japanese occupation fueled support for Mao that he never would have gotten otherwise.

Ironically, however, the Japanese left the Jews alone, especially in Shanghai, which had a sizable Jewish population.

I remember reading somewhere that there was a Japanese diplomat that got visas for Jews. I can’t rememebr exactly where now. A sort of small scale Wallenberg.

That is debatable.

China was a mess and they were arguing about what type of communist they were going to be.

Why is that ironic?

The Nazi's did not kill any non-Japanese Asian they found in Germany.

They each had their underclass that they wanted to kill.

It would have been interesting to know just what they planned to do if they had taken over the world.
