France to build up to 14 new nuclear reactors by 2050, says Macron

Atomic energy provides about 70% of French electricity, and low-cost nuclear power has been a mainstay of the French economy since the 1970s, but recent attempts to build new-generation reactors to replace older models have become mired in cost overruns and delays.

Presidential candidates on the right have supported more nuclear power plants saying France should have “sovereignty” over its electricity, while detractors on the left have warned of the cost and complexity of building new reactors. Environmentalists have raised safety concerns over radioactive waste that remains deadly for tens of thousands of years.

Macron said French nuclear regulators were “unequalled” in their rigour and professionalism and that the decision to build new nuclear power plants was a “choice of progress, a choice of confidence in science and technology”.

Sounds like an excellent plan.

The fact that Germany has shutdown their nuclear plants doesn’t hurt either. France has always been willing to sell electricity to Germany, for a suitably high price,

This could become the second highest-revenue commodity exported by the French to Germany, after white flags ...

Macron supporting nukes and working to prevent nuke war with Russia.

I guess some liberals are not beyond reform.

And how will they do this since they believe that nuclear waste will wind up destroying the planet?

Or has the collective amnesia libtard and scared people have abput natural immunity now progressed to them having their minds wiped about hollywood’s The China Syndrome happening, and real events such as 3 mile island, and chernobyl, and fukushima...?

Guess their morals just vanish from their brains when they want to use their toaster ovens ans charge their electric vehicles.

It sounds like the US ought to hire the French nuclear regulatory agency to approve and supervise a new fleet of nuclear reactors in the US.

Remains deadly or remains radioactive? Don’t the most radioactive materials decay quickly while the lower level radioactive material lasts the longest? Can a sciencey type of person comment?

We rightly mock the French but on this issue they have kicked our asses. The future of energy is nuclear not bs windmills and solar panels.

I am amazed - and thrilled.

Macron is a Socialist, right?

He has shouted down the Muslim immigrants in France and basically told them to assimilate or leave.

His Covid policies are much less severe than Germany, Austria, and the UK, and possibly less than Denmark and Holland.

Now, he is boasting about building more nuclear reactors.

There is apparently some kind of ‘deal’ where France takes the nuclear waste and ships it to a location in Siberia, under a Russian company owned by France.

France has several no-go zones full of muslims, and now they want to add nuclear facilities. What could possibly go wrong?

” the US ought to hire the French nuclear regulatory agency to approve and supervise a new fleet of nuclear reactors in the US.”

Yesterday’s news had the announcement that TVA was going to start building new nuclear reactors.

To rewrite part of a comment above in correct liberal phraseology “” France has always been willing to sell electricity to Germany, for a ‘sustainably’ high price,””

As long as one uses the current liberal phraseology, one can state almost anything and the sheeple will go right along.
