Supply Shortage of Legitimate Prescriptions (vanity)

Posted on 02/08/2022 1:25:40 PM PST by Bogle

I've been advised to hold back one pill from each prescription refill in case of future supply disruption. This is particularly important because I have epilepsy. Is this "hoarding" legal? And is there a maximum number of pills that is legally safe to keep (for instance--accumulate one extra week of pills, accumulate one extra month of pills, etc.)? For the record--Internet searches haven't answered my question. Thank you a great deal for any information!

We are talking meds for specific applications for you epilepsy here, not "pain pills" or mood altering psychiatric meds. Messing with those is playing with fire.

Unless you are a congress critters.

I think a lot of these arbitrary numbers are a ‘computer thing’.

(It worries me that we’re dumbing our human lives down to the parameters of various AI capabilities...everything has to be expressed in a way that a program can understand; and most computer programs available to business are still pretty simple.)

Anyone who doesn’t keep at least a few months worth of pills in reserve is playing with fire, given what’s going on with Brandon. In my case, my insurance will let me refill at 23 days on a 30 day prescription, so I refill every 23 days, meaning in 10 months I finish off the 12-refill prescription (meaning that I have a 2-month supply at that point).

But just as I finish, back for another ‘annual’ and new prescription and so back to the 23 day refill cycle.

It’s great having some extra, as I don’t have to worry about running out or trying to refill if I’m out of town.

“in most countries many drugs that are only avaible by prescription here are over the counter in that country”

I was in a country halfway around the world and got 3 prescriptions. It was amazing. I went into the tiny pharmacy with scrips. The lady looked at them, turned around to the shelves behind her, took all 3, and gave me my prescription back - all without verifying or altering the prescription. I could have simply walked to the next pharmacy and done the same. (obviously not narcotics)

We have some big-time HANG-UPs here and it’s damn silly.

My PCP told me a couple of weeks ago that our local RiteAid and another major pharmacy were out of Cipro, a commonly used antibiotic. Luckily our privately owned pharmacy had it.

Should be fine as long as you don’t mention it on the internet ... never mind

You can tell your Doc what you want to do and ask him to increase your medication on the scripts but you’ll still take it as directed.

Are we talking about Dilantin by chance?
