Today was my first time experiencing the frozen door handle of doom. @elonmusk can we add an option to open the door from the app? pic.twitter.com/t8eBWnWFZD

How do you drive a frozen Tesla.

I’ve lived in Western NY for over 70 years, and EVERY car I’ve owned has, multiple times, during the winter had its doors frozen shut. I’ve had new cars, every 3 years since I was 20 and again they ALL freeze up.
So was this Tesla’s fault also?
This is obviously the Tesla’s attempt to mask up and be safe. If the door can’t be opened, it can’t go out on the road. Much safer this way. Slow the spread!
Teslas have no door ‘handles’, like normal cars, only electronically operated door latches that pop open the door...........nothing to grab............
Most likely because of cost. Car companies will pull a nickel out of a vehicle if they can - anything times a million the cost matters. One might argue a Tesla is an expensive vehicle so it should include them. One might have similar arguments on 20 different aspects of the vehicle - costs could get out of control.
I’m not saying they shouldn’t or that I’m right - just my experience in the automotive field.
Irrelevant as those cars I mentioned, had those handles FREEZE solid so it does not matter if they are aerodynamically flush or exposed.
That sounds like b.s. What, they couldn't break a window?
If you can afford a Tesla, you can afford a heated garage.
Cheap trick for frozen car locks I learned in Ontario: long extension cord + hairdryer.
“I remember hearing about a Tesla catching fire and firemen watching the person inside burn to death because the doors were inoperative.”
If it makes me look cool in front of my friends, then why not!
Tesla: The Hairdryer!
Did you ever get frozen INSIDE of your cars, as in this high-tech case.
After last weeks 3” of sleet, all cars should have a non-breakable way to open the frozen doors.
All I know is that there are enough complaints that NHTSA and Transport Canada are investigating it as a safety issue.
Ever see one burn? Burns fast and you can’t put it out.
Unrelated to your post I replied to.
I’ve seen a few burning cars and they are always Chrysler products. Every last one.
Well then, the problem is the fire, not whether the door can be opened or not.
Considering you couldn’t open the door, and those Battery fires are almost explosive you have a recipe for disaster.
Lithium Battery fires have caused all kinds of problems, but considering you are locked into a tiny space with a roaring chemical fire is the definition of a death trap.
