Effort to rescue Moroccan boy stuck in well reaches ‘final stages’

A large team of Moroccan workers was in the “final stages” of a precarious mission to rescue a 5-year-old boy named Rayan from a 105-foot deep well that he had been trapped in since Tuesday.

Workers were bulldozing cautiously to avoid soil erosion, landslides and falling rocks as they tried to reach the boy. The teams could not descend directly into the well because it was too narrow, the report said.

As the frantic rescue effort reached its fourth day, the North African nation was reportedly riveted to live coverage of the rescue effort in the rural village of Ighran, about 75 miles southeast of the Straight of Gibraltar,

“I pray and beg God that he comes out of that well alive and safe,” his mother Wassima Kharchich told local television 2M. “Please God, ease my pain and his, in that hole of dust.”

Reminiscent of little Baby Jessica in 1987, who fell down a 22-foot well in her aunt’s backyard. She was rescued after 60 hours. Most of America was riveted to their TV’s during that time.

I pray that this boy will be brought up alive and with minimal damage to his health.

Rescuers say the mission is in its final stages.

Concurrently, big concrete pipes are being deployed to the scene to be used in the rescue. Rescuers intend to insert them in the terrain before digging manually to protect personnel and Rayan from collapsing rocks and dirt.

Authorities issue an update saying that there are only a few hours separating them from Rayan.
