As the Super Bowl approaches, a chicken wing frenzy is also on the horizon. As someone who doesn’t give a flying chicken wing about football, I consider the platters of food synonymous with the Super Bowl to be its only saving grace.
But when your eyes meet that tray of wings, what do you prefer to pluck from the pile? There are the drumettes (already winning with a cute name like that), the flats, or the option to go boneless. Some people would take death over a “wing” without a bone, especially on Super Bowl Sunday, when wings are most sacred. Can’t say I relate to those people, but I respect that they choose authenticity.
My personal ranking goes like this, from best to worst: boneless, drums, and then flats. Boneless is by far the best. You get straight to what you want, you can use a fork, and you don’t end up having to discard a stack of bones with bits of meat you missed out on still stuck to them. Boneless is also your best bet at not ending up with saucy stains on your face, fingers, or clothes. Yes, I know that generally you should just accept the probability of getting messy when tucking into some saucy chicken wings, but if there’s an equally delicious option not to, I’ll take it.
The drums, or drumettes, are the next best option to boneless. They’re easy to bite right into, and if there’s enough meat on the bone, you could use a fork on them, too.

Boneless wings are also known as Chicken McNuggets.
May I also suggest, cocktail meatballs, little smokies, queso and tortilla chips?
I actually prefer deep fried chicken legs, made with the Frank’s sauce and butter.
Or chicken fingers, which I guess is just the end of the wing.
Boneless are also known as Faux wings, aka: crap.
In before the Far Side cartoon.
Made it by seconds!

The best wing ever?
I would have to say its a tie between Gordie Howe and Steve Yzerman........what..........Oh, sorry, you meant the best chicken wing ever, I thought the question meant who was the best Detroit Red Wing ever.
The best chicken wings ever were from an old sports bar in San Diego called Tubaman’s. It had a cook, cant remember his name, from oh about 1990 till 1995 that made the best bar food one could imagine, his chicken wings were to die for. He had half a dozen or so home-made sauces from nuclear hot to mild they were fantastic and so tasty. Tuesday’s and Thursdays were wing nights when you could buy wings for 10 cents apiece and of course there were always wing specials for college football on Saturdays and for the NFL on Sundays.
When I gave Chinese Cooking classes (years ago) I boned those flat ones and stuffed them. TASTY!
Saw the price on a bag of wings the other day and about fainted. You can get boneless breast tenderloins for less per pound then wings.
Not much to stuff..

Hey Henry, Henry, hurry up will you? My mother's gonna make some fried peppers and sausage for us. Oh hey, Henry, Henry. Here's an arm.
Very funny, guys.
Hey, here's a leg. Here's a wing.
Hey, what do you like, the leg or the wing, Henry? Or do you still go for the old hearts and lungs?
my Viet friends always stuff under the skin on chicken, very tasty indeed.
I dream of a time when a chicken can cross the road
without having it’s motives questioned...
