CNN's top talents slammed the top boss of the network's parent company over the ousting of president Jeff Zucker during an explosive meeting Wednesday and demanded to know whether or not he'd consulted anyone in the decision.
Anchor Jake Tapper demanded WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar address the 'perception' that Zucker lost his job by refusing to pay 'terrorist' Chris Cuomo the $18million remaining on his contract.
'The perception that Chris Cuomo gets fired by CNN. Chris Cuomo hires a high-powered lawyer who has a scorched-earth policy, who then makes it very clear to the world that unless Jeff gives Chris Cuomo his money, they're going to blow the place up,' Tapper said, according to an audio recording of the meeting leaked by Business Insider.
Zucker was cast out of the company with immediate effect on Wednesday after bosses at WarnerMedia and AT&T, which owns WarnerMedia, were told of the affair by Chris Cuomo's lawyers.
He wanted to keep his job until AT&T's $43billion deal with Discovery was completed, but Kilar - with whom Zucker has had a frosty relationship before - insisted that he resign immediately.
The affair surfaced as part of the investigation into whether or not Chris Cuomo, who Zucker fired in December, should be paid the $18million left on his contract. He insists he is entitled to it but Zucker was refusing to pay up, citing his inappropriate work relationship with his brother as cause for the firing.
Cuomo, determined to get his money, is still threatening a lawsuit against the network that is rooted in allegations Gollust and Zucker were inappropriately close with his brother Andrew as well.
To stave off that lawsuit - and more potential scandal - CNN is now reportedly considering giving him half - $9million.
