prevented her from getting hired at a local Harris Teeter location back in 2020.

The video, which is a screen-recording of the rejection voicemail she received from the hiring manager, was posted to TikTok last week by zenayajones8. So far, the post has amassed over 14 million views and thousands of comments from people who vented frustrations about constantly worrying about being "professional."

"Yes, Ms. Jones, I recommend if you apply for a job and you expect somebody to call you that you have a more appropriate, uh, response on your voicemail," the manager said in his message to Jones.

It is a ‘job thing’ and it is something she doesn’t clearly understand.

Was the personal phone to be used for work? If not, not such a big deal.

Contrarily, if that influenced the hiring manager’s choice, why say so on the record in the age of everything-ism and cancel culture? Just hang up and move along.

When I was a flight attendant, a young lady asked me if I could give her information on applying. She wrote her email address on a napkin and I stuck it in my pocket. Later, I pulled it out and was going to send her the link to apply and her email was something like partygurrrlllll696969@****.com

I threw it away.

She sounds happy.

Well, it sounds like she's ready to party, anyway!

If you're just leaving a message for your friends, that's fine. But if you're in the midst of job-hunting, it's probably a good idea to just use an old, boring "Please leave a message and I'll get back to you" until you're gainfully employed.

It’s a shame her parents didn’t raise her better

"The message was light, and good-humored."

Guess I am just old and hard of hearing but I couldn't understand a thing she said. I was able to detect the person was female. I am making progress.

"Wassup, wassup, wassup," she sang at the beginning of the message. "Wassup ya'll it's your girl Zanaya... I'm sorry I couldn't answer the phone. Please leave your name, number, yeah you know all that."

There is a silver lining. The DNC will be contacting her with a job offer later today.

Are you kidding? Common sense is more out of fashion than critical thinking.

The question you have to ask is, would you REALLY be happy working for uptight a-holes like this?

Consider this a blessing.

That is good advice. And FGS please. Please clean up your social media sites. If a hiring manager would look at some Facebook pages and see all the crap ongoing, why would they want to hire someone like that?

Not a professional greeting at all.
But I have heard worse.
Kind of depends on what level of job she is looking for.
She did leave this number (and VM if she doesn’t answer ) for a prospective employer .

Nor I. She applied for a job at a grocery store chain.

I became the oldest employee at my company (by 10 years) when I started back in July. We have several different entities, to include a coffee shop and video production company. The latter is hugely profitable, run by a fine young man under 30 with 40+ million YouTube subscribers over several platforms.

We have a laid back atmosphere, and great working environment. Most employees are 30 and under who take responsibility for their work. They bring energy to their work which helps me out too.

My boss hires off Indeed, so we don’t call, just email.

Not getting a job because of an uncontrollable health condition that doesn’t affect you’re job performance is wrong...

I get the fact that a company wants someone to be fun...

But as a customer, I don’t want someone to greet me with a “wassup, wassup, wassup...” when they are ringing up my groceries, or cutting my deli order. Regardless of race or gender.

Like it or not, recruiter uses the conduct of VM messages, emails, and yes, social media, as a means to vet and weed out their candidates. It’s not any kind of secret that they see it as a reflection of your personality as a worker, right or wrong.

Unless she is expected to receive client calls on her personal phone, her VM greeting shouldn’t matter one whit to an prospective employer.

[Please clean up your social media sites.]

I realized this when my manager was sitting next to me looking up FB profiles while sifting through resumes for a job opening.

Best to change your name on FB and Twitter to something that can’t be searched.
