It’s not just companies that search out social media sites, but schools also.

Especially schools that provide students with laptops. Laptops that report back to the school district all Internet searches and activities.

Is this an invasion of privacy? Especially on a minor?

I don’t think so.

Yes it is a violation of privacy. If there is cause, fine. If it’s a general sweep, it’s going too far. We are a battle with leftist authoritarians. Why feed into their databases? Why go along with their surveillance?

I’ve always like Roman Moronie from Johnny Dangerously

Could you forward that napkin to me. I’d at least like to interview her.

No, professional means “businesslike”. Don’t waste people’s time; rather, sound like you have some respect for people and their time.

In college, my Vice President of College Democrats roommate did one of JFK. It was actually pretty good.

He's somewhere up in Ithica or Rochester these days, if he's not in jail for checking out instruments from schools and pawning them.

I worked in a professional office that had a lot of doctors, lawyers, and politicians coming in and out for meetings; the grand trifecta of grifters, but I digress.

I was interviewing for an additional front desk person. One interviewee was qualified but her attire choice was questionable (large bust, obviously wearing a push up bra, very low cut sweater). I called her back for a second interview thinking we could have the "appropriate attire" discussion if she was hired. Her phone message was "I can't come to the phone, I'm all tied up" followed by moans and groans of a sexual nature.

I decided she wouldn't even get to the second interview.

Businessmen waste time all the time.

Cut the non-MBA little people a break, they shouldn’t have to act like folks who prattle on endlessly about synergy and team building or social responsibility in the marketplace but way too often don’t actually make anything of value.

Yes I did, however, she was speaking to people who understood her as they were her peeps (friends & family).

Apparently, they were calling to make an offer, otherwise, what was the purpose for them calling her? When they called and heard her message, they evidently, changed their minds. If in fact what she claims is the real reason, is actually the reason.

Neither you, nor I, know how she may speak. But the answering message is no indication as to what her true communication skills may be. Instead, it is just a goofy message she decided to leave on her answering machine or service. Had she spoken like that at the interview, then I doubt very seriously that they would have even called her.

First of all it’s the schools property. Secondly the student and their parents have generally signed a waiver acknowledging that any and all searches and activities on Sid computer would be monitored.

If that’s not agreeable, fine. Do not use their laptop.

You must be young. There are norms for telephone and email that have been in place for a long time. If someone sounds flippant, they probably are. Youngsters in the workforce now aren't nearly as productive as they should be. It seems they don't appreciate the fact that they are being paid to perform the tasks given to them as rapidly and accurately as possible. They have lost track of the notion that reducing their employer's business workflow will eventually result in loss of revenue, maybe even loss of employment.

Get huffy and puffy as much as you wish. If you want a good job, act like you care about your image and that of your employer.

Actually I’m old enough to remember offices before email … when people would use phones or even send around hand written notes. Maybe even walk over yonder.

Do you think the “paperless office” and what came from its aspirations reduced paper work or just made it easier to produce more activity that appeared to be productive?

Or beggarly. Her message is a harmless bit of fluff probably done for missed calls of friends and family. Is she suppose to have a more staid greeting for others? Also wouldn’t most employers have alternate means of reaching prospective employees such as an email where there is confirmation it was received?
