Feb. 1, 2022 -- While studies indicate the Omicron subvariant spreads more easily than the highly transmissible original Omicron variant, there’s no evidence the subvariant makes people any sicker, a World Health Organization official said, according to CNBC.
Maria Van Kerkhove, WHO technical lead, said Tuesday at a news conference that both the Omicron variant, labeled BA.1 and the subvariant, BA.2, cause less severe illness than the Delta variant.
But there’s no indication the subvariant causes more severe illness than the original Omicron, she said. Vaccines protect people from illness and death from both the variant and the subvariant, she said.
“We need people to be aware that this virus is continuing to circulate and it’s continuing to evolve,” Van Kerkhove said. “That’s why it’s really important that we take measures to reduce our exposure to this virus, whatever variant is circulating,”
The WHO named Omicron “a variant of concern” in November. The subvariant, BA.2, has not been recognized as a separate variant of concern.
“BA.2 is one of the sublineages of Omicron, so BA.2 is omicron, and it is a variant of concern,” Van Kerkhove said. “It’s in the family of the variants of concern around Omicron.”
Denmark has reported the highest number of Omicron subvariant cases, followed by the United Kingdom and India.
A study conducted by Danish scientists showed that BA.2 is much more transmissible than BA.1 among vaccinated and unvaccinated people, spreads easily across all groups, and is “adept” at infecting vaccinated and boosted people, CNBC reported. That indicates BA.2 is better at evading vaccines than BA.1.
But researchers found that vaccinated people who are infected with BA.2 don’t transmit the virus as easily as the unvaccinated, according to the study. Boosted people transmitted the virus less than fully vaccinated people.
Among the unvaccinated, transmission rates were higher with BA.2 than BA.1, indicating unvaccinated people were carrying a higher viral load with the subvariant, CNBC said.
Scientists affiliated with the University of Copenhagen and the Danish Health Ministry conducted the study, which has not been submitted for peer review.
Last week, the Statens Serum Institut, which monitors infectious diseases in Denmark, reported that the omicron subvariant is 1.5 times more transmissible than the original omicron strain.
The World Health Organization has said the probability for spreading within a household was 39% for BA.2 and 29% for BA.1.
Trying desperately to prevent herd immunity from occurring.
But, how do those two compare with BA.3?
Clearly, they all must be considered together.
BA BA BA...
LOL
We must do everything in our power to keep people from coming in contact with this endemic* disease.
*please be patient while the CDC works on a new definition of the word ‘endemic’
And I’ll tell you. It works with some folks.
When omicron came on the scene, I had a relative rush out and get her booster because of all the “dangerous new variants out there”.
Canceled any events involving the unclean er. ah….. unvaxxed. No family get togethers with the unvaxxed until summer when it could be either outside or ALL the windows in the house could be opened for good ventilation.
Odd anomalies even in this latest "newly discovered," suggesting that the data definitions, collection and analyses are flawed, when framed in the larger :mortality rate" picture.
As of 4 February 2022, with worldometers.info as source:
( 3,811 "official Covid deaths" in Denmark / 5,792,202 Danes ) x 100 = 0.066 % Less than one-tenth of one percent over more than two years of this "official" pandemic.
( 157,730 "official Covid deaths" in the UK / 67,886,011 Brits ) x 100 = 0.232 % Almost four times the Danish mortality rate, and yet still less than one quarter of one percent of the population over more than two years.
( 500,087 "official Covid deaths" in India / 1,380,004,385 Indians ) x 100 = 0.036 % Much lower mortality rate than the United Kingdom, and for a supposedly third world country, the mortality rate is less than four-tenths of one percent over these past two+ years.
Possible conclusions?
The WebMD "report" reporting a CNBC "report" about the WHO report, accepts numbers uncritically, merely passing through the latest "pandemic" messaging. As seen in the above, more critical looks at the data are possible, rather than simply play the media game of Chinese Whispers.
The WHO assertion that places Denmark first, then the UK and India as third in this short list does NOT reflect the "official" mortality rates in any way. Hence, the WHO report merely talks up the latest "variant" which seems of minimal medical impact.
The article is the excuse for making the marketing pitch yet again, with "Vaccines protect people from illness and death from both the variant and the subvariant...."
If variants are varying and varying again, the assertion that "vaccines" -- without naming the mRNA "experimental" injections still under EUAs and clinical trials in the US -- for the first strain will work for subsequent strains is an assertion, not a proven as yet as fact. What is fact is that viruses attenuate and weaken, as the Spanish flu historical model shows in its approximately two years of "pandemic."
A comment in this thread observes, "Trying desperately to keep the panic and hysteria going." (metmom)
As of 4 February 2022, according to worldometers' "official" data,
( 5,733,072 "worldometers official" global deaths / 7,923,543,454 global population ) x 100 = 0.072 %
Less than one tenth of one percent "officially" Covid dead over two years worldwide, says worldometers' data.
As so, another albeit smaller anomaly validates metmom's conclusion. It is this, from the WHO through CNBC to WebMD's messaging....
Denmark's "highest number of Omicron subvariant cases" is framed by the FACT that the Denmark's mortality rate is LOWER than the worldwide average mortality rate.
One wonders who at the WHO puts out this copy, without considering the overall stats?
Biden and Fauci are sad.
Totally corrupt as it is, it’s simply astonishing that the WHO operates with more honesty and truthfulness and has more respect than the CDC.
WHO?
Liar, liar...
Notice that their “Science” make no mention of natural immunity, which is better than the jab.
I just couldn’t live like that. Or with someone like that.
This incredible fear of our environment is hysteria that’s for sure. The world is full of dangers, including viruses, bacteria, fungi and toxic chemicals that we can’t see or smell. Always has been.
Generally mankind does pretty good in spite of it all. Generations of common sense, miraculous immune systems and never-ending progress in identifying and neutralizing the dangers has made life pretty livable. Better now than ever.
Yet some seem to think it’s rational to live in abject terror that death is around the next corner. It might be which is all the more reason to enjoy life IMO. Constant fear of the boogeyman is no fun at all.
Well, fortunately I don’t have to live with someone like that.
She is a good 8 hours away.
And I thank God I don’t live like that.
All that stress isn’t good for you anyways.
People like that don’t realize what they are doing to their own health with that kind of fear. It’s hurrying them towards the very thing they are trying to avoid.
Absolutely right. Stress is probably the biggest contributor in most disease processes including cancer. It plays havoc with the immune system.
