Dolphins owner fires back at Brian Flores: Charges are ‘false, malicious and defamatory’

Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has broken his silence over the claims against him and the organization in a lawsuit filed by former coach Brian Flores.

In the suit, centered on alleged discriminatory hiring practices in the NFL, Flores also says he was offered a bonus of $100,000 per game by Ross to tank games during his tenure as coach. Flores coached the Dolphins for three seasons and went 24-25 before being fired after a 9-8 campaign in 2022.

Ross personally pushed back against Flores’ claims in a statement released late Wednesday after the Dolphins had already said they “vehemently deny any allegations of racial discrimination.”

“With regards to the allegations being made by Brian Flores, I am a man of honor and integrity and cannot let them stand without responding,” Ross said. “I take great personal exception to these malicious attacks, and the truth must be known. His allegations are false, malicious and defamatory.

All the talking heads spewing their woke comments.

I have heard them say, “what kind of evidence is there and when will we get to see it”?

I wonder what will happen if/when it comes out as yet another Jessie Smollett hoax?

Not one single talking head has mentioned that scenario.

I’m with you! Grab the popcorn 🍿 🍿 🍿 and wait!

“His winning percentage is .490”

His last to seasons, he was close to the playoffs. But, I didn’t mean to leave the impression that I liked him. No, I don’t at all. He had to win out because he’d lose almost every game the first half of the season.

I am glad they fired him, but the GM also needed to go. Ross is a complete idiot and no decent coach will ever consider coaching in Miami as long as he is there. And Flores wasn’t a decent coach.

“Lost seven games in a row. I don’t think even the Tennessee Vols would keep a coach after that.”

Tennessee beats Temple 11 - 6... Uh, did you know it’s BASKETBALL?

You have to be woke and understand the difference between equality and equity. Equality means having the same opportunity to succeed or fail. Equity means if you don't have equal outcomes then systemic racism exists and the victims must be compensated and the oppressors (white people) must be punished.

Hey, America voted for Obama twice, and is still a racist country. Makes as much sense.

The first season was losing (typical for a lot of first time head coaches). Next two season were winning. 10-7, 9-8.

So you don’t believe in facts? Is 24-25 a losing record or not? Last time I checked, if you lose more games than you win, it’s called a losing record.

The only thing discriminatory in the hiring practice is that teams are required to interview at least one black in the hiring of head coaches; it does not say they must be given the job. And I'm no big fan of NFL owners, but it seems unlikely that an owner would pay a coach to lose games.

If the offer to lose was really made, and if he is a man of integrity, why did he not report it to league officials at the time and how his proof?

Ha, even after I said I don’t like him and glad he was fired. I also mentioned that I didn’t think he was a good coach, you’re still sticking this silly point?

But to your point, he had a losing record overall. But you could also go with he had a winning record in his last two seasons. Overall he had a winning record in 66% percent of his seasons. He likely done better percentage wise than 85% of new coaches over first three years, etc...

It is a meaningless argument, because he could easily say if he had another season he would have a winning overall stat.

Again, I am glad he was fired, but the GM should have join him. The GM and owner handicapped the team for years even before his hiring.

should have just ignored him. they are hoping for a visceral reaction so the whole thing grows legs. Ignore him and he will go away.

Flores was a terrible coach. And he was fired by a black GM that didn’t get fired. Nothing says revisit owner like those actions.

Let’s revisit Flores’ issues:
1) season one he alienated two players. Minkah Fitzpatrick, then a second year player, demanded a trade and refused to play for Flores in the preseason. He is an all pro now. Kenny Stills was making noise in the media about social justice, something about JayZ, I think . So Flores mocked him at the start of a training camp practice by playing a JayZ song. Stills got traded shortly thereafter.

2) season 2, he completely mishandled the QB situation. He undermined the still injured rookie and the veteran. He made the decision to start Tua days after saying he wouldn’t play him because he wasn’t healthy. The veteran learned about it on Twitter. The D played great against weaklings and got eaten alive by good QBs

3) season 3, he spent the entire season undermining the QB because he wanted to trade EVERYTHING for a sexual predator who quit on his team 12 months after signing a massive contract. He played soft defense when it mattered. Then when they were out of contention, he went back to their strengths and dominated crappy teams. Then, in a win and in game he went soft D against the titans again. Furthermore, you could squarely pin 3 losses on his decision making: jaguars, raiders and colts. He beat one decent team: the ravens. The papers in SFL say he stopped talking to half of his assistants after the trade deadline when he didn’t get his way

4) supposedly he was demanding control over personnel as soon as the season ended. This is against a GM who openly says he chooses players that the coach approves. What was the issue? The fins didn’t give up 5 1st and 2nd rounders for a POS predator.

5) he could not keep qualified assistants on staff. Most left after a year. By the last off-season, he had a reputation, because no outsider wanted the OC job. He hired nobodies across the entire coaching roster. It was not an NFL stuff. There were guys who came directly from HS!

6) the last coach, Gase, was fired because he didn’t want to go through a full rebuild. They said that in the press conference. When Flores was hired he got an unprecedented 5 year contract because it was going to be a tear down and rebuild. The season was nicknamed “tank for Tua” before it even started. I have a tee shirt.

6) the only time he ever coached aggressively was when there was nothing to lose: out of contention in the season, or when a game was out of reach.

I find it hard to believe a NYC billionaire land developer made any documented offers to lose games. All they had to do was trade their talent, like they did. I don’t doubt he may have made a joke or two. This idea that he told Flores to take a mid-season vacation so they could lose more could only be a joke. No one has ever done it. No one would. It’s called sarcasm.

I really hope Ross sues him for defamation and does it with a ruthless vengeance. The entire suit reads like it was written waiting for a coach to come on board. It also reads like Flores’ sour grapes wrapped in social justice.

When Flores was fired, they had to publicly give a reason because they knew it would receive criticism. They said he was difficult to work with and a poor communicator. Boy this suit sure proves them wrong! 😀

Listening to the TV, Flores is a very special coach. I looked it up, he has a losing record as a Head Coach. You are what your record says you are.

But, but, he was told to lose games that's why his record sucks, it's not his fault.

Lots of 'loser' coaches after a few seasons, I believe Belichick was like 40-55 after his first 5,6 years. Lots of coaches don't do well in their debuts and get fired, but if they are any good and learn from their mistakes, they come back if they don't burn bridges behind them. Hell, you can win a superbowl and transform into a loser overnight(Philly ex-coach) and be gone. You can be a great QB playing behind a lousy O-line and be defined as a loser..LOL..it's all too funny.

Flores better hope he gets some dough out of this cuz he killed the golden goose with his lawsuit. BTW, BC, not nitpicking your post, I agree with you.

The word I hear in the NYC area is that Flores knew damn well that he was radioactive and would never get another NFL job offer.

- Flores claims he won't get another job offer because he refused to tank for Ross, and word about this got around the NFL.

- Miami's management would suggest that he's radioactive because he doesn't get along with people on the staff.

In either case, the suggestion is that Flores filed this lawsuit out of desperation because his NFL career is over and he wants a big settlement before he moves on to an obscure NCAA program and is never heard from again.

Actually I think he can do better than an obscure NCAA slot. Those colleges are desperate for coaching talent, it appears.
