This is for you. I really like what is said here and am going to try my best to follow it. Thank you to the person who wrote this. May God bless us all as we strive to be a blessing to others at this age, especially to our children.

Respect the younger generation and their opinions. Heck, if you've turned 51, why not date a 30 something? :^)

Nope. The older are wiser. The younger need to listen. The Participation Trophy generation is wasted.

Less than an hour ago ( here in Japan ) I was just telling my wife exactly what is written here :
” Stop worrying about the financial situation of your children and grandchildren, and don’t feel bad spending your money on yourself. You’ve taken care of them for many years, and you’ve taught them what you could. You gave them an education, food, shelter, and support. The responsibility is now theirs to earn their own money.”

I thought this was going to be a joke and I read the entire thing, waiting for a punch line. And then I was like, “Oh wow. This is serious advice.” I was really embarrassed!

I’m asset rich and cash poor. My retirement is in my business, the big industrial building I own outright, and 80 acres of lakefront land and my homes.
Yes, I can sell out and live comfortably right now if I wanted to, but to be honest I won’t do it. I can see whoever wrote this wasn’t a business owner or a farmer either. I believe your wealth should get handed down to your children and grandchildren simply because they will never have the opportunities that we had now, and giving them a leg up to better themselves, especially the grandchildren, is my main goal now.
I’m not saying make it easy, either they work damn hard for it or they won’t get it, but I’d rather my children be given a leg up than me going around the world, buying depreciative items, and generally just being a glutton even if it is mine to do with as I please.
Family first, I guess after you bury your parents who did all this for you and watch your grandson fighting for his life in a respirator changes how you see the world and your legacy.

Some people embrace their golden years, while others become bitter and surly. Life is too short to waste your days on the latter. Spend your time with positive, cheerful people, it'll rub off on you and your days will seem that much better. Spending your time with bitter people will make you feel older and harder to be around. What?? And give up the election threads on Free Republic?
