Dang, I'm usually on top of the news but I missed seeing this one. If this has been posted please remove.
According to an article written by former U.S. Representative Bob Barr, hidden away in the recently passed infrastructure bill, the very one I warned before would negatively impact drivers across the country if it were to pass, is a measure to install vehicle kill switches into every new car, truck, and SUV sold in this country. The regulation likely won’t be enforced for five years, so maybe there’s time to do something about this.
As we’ve seen both in this country and others recently, what constitutes “law-abiding” can change drastically overnight. For example, in September a car was pulled over in New Zealand and the occupants arrested when police discovered the trunk was full of Kentucky Fried Chicken meals. They were smuggling the fast food to customers in locked-down Auckland, against quarantine measures. Yet not too long before, delivering restaurant orders to people was considered a reputable, legal activity.

Do you really trust any government entity to do anything “judiciously”?
I sure as Hell do not.
Indeed.
A software/hardware switch that can be triggered remotely by law enforcement or your mortal enemy..............
Just a “small” part of the plan to have total control over the American people...a few years from now we may be wondering if we would have more freedom if we migrated to China, Cuba, North Korea....
Alas, the gov’t will enforce it until someone manages to push legal opposition all the way up to SCOTUS.
Progressives realize the value of “one off” enforcement: harder to get _you_ to obey, but easier to get a _manufacturer_ to comply on your behalf.
Unintended consequence: more cops killed.
Those engaged in crimes will learn that “flight” is not a viable option, so they’ll have to prepare for “fight”.
“Convoy-19” Trudeau is very much in favor of this legislation.
Tyrants-Want-More-Control BUMP
Whenever a new law or regulation is proposed think of the worst way it could be interpreted or used.
That’s exactly how it will be used.
There is no more chance that they will “use it judiciously” than there was of the “promise” being upheld by gay people that “all they wanted was to be married, and they woild never go after Christians or,anyone, because they just wanted to be happy”
It is not likely to be that easy. It will be in the form of a message to the ECU telling it to stop working, as in stop firing the spark plugs, cut off the fuel, etc. You would have to mess with the ECU software. This is already illegal. The EPA is currently taking down aftermarket tuners for doing this. In addition, if you are required to get pollution checked, they will detect it through the OBD port. Also, since new cars are continuously in contact with the mother ship, it can be detected that way.
The only way around this will be driving older cars.
Maybe, maybe not.
A lot of modern electronics are involving encrypted and authenticated communicated between devices. If the engine controller requires a handshake with a kill switch device before starting you may not be easily able to disable the ‘feature’. It would not be easy to spoof or decrypt the messaging.
It raises some interesting Constitutional questions imo. Freedom of movement without government control, so 4A implications? Can a car be considered a weapon? If so, does this infringe on 2A? If authorities can disable our car at their discretion, can we do the same to theirs? (they have guns so we have guns.) This is quite clearly a question of freedom - which the car has always represented.
If Patrick Henry were alive today: “Give me liberty or give me death!”
Government: “Okay, we’ll give you death if you mess with us, and there’s nothing you can do about it because people gave away their liberty over the years in order to be comfortable.”
Next, these will be installed in everyone’s upcoming required pacemaker.
A car company will produce parts for X amount of years after a car is built. As you move further and further away from that year, it gets harder and harder to find parts.
Eventually I’m sure,
Those would be “good” bullets to them.
Good ol’ Bob Barr. He would have railed against this for 2 hours on the House floor. But under Kevin McCarthy the House GOP are good little sheep for Biden’s police state.
I say we have a kill switch for the assholes proposing all of this nonsense.
“Better to keep the 15 year old one running, than the 3.”
A few years ago I had a fridge go out in a rental. Called my repair guy and said, “It’s 16 years old, I should just replace it”. He said, “I’m telling you right now, I have to work on more 3 year-old fridges than 16 year-old ones. Let me look at it first.”
Replaced the temp control dial and it worked fine. Saved a thousand bucks and tenant had a fridge sooner without lifting a finger.
