South Africa approves new Covid rules.
Bad news for Karens. Their glory days may be coming to a rapid end.
Don’t be fooled. South Africa is FAR DIFFERENT than the United States. The problem they have is that there is no incentive in South Africa to make Big Pharma rich, so they’re able to get back to normal without risking the profits of Big Pharma. We don’t have that luxury.
The virus doesn’t care what govts do.
South Africa has been clocking in with about 110 deaths per day lately, about 8X more than the weeks just before Omicron evolved.
It just doesn’t care about govt policy.
as are other countries and for the first time America is now the follower of the world instead of the leader ...
A fine observation.
As to South Africa over these last two+ years of a WHO-official pandemic:
( 95,093 "worldometers-official" Covid deaths / 59,308,690 South Africans ) x 100 = 0.16% "mortality rate" over two+ years of the pandemic'
The "case mortality rate" is ( 95,093 deaths over two years / 3,605,222 cases ) x 100 = 2.64%/ A yearly estimate could be about half that percentage.
But the "mortality rate" is far smaller. 0.16%.
That is, less than two-tenths of one percent over two+ years of the official pandemic. And so the government's view of the "the trajectory of the pandemic" is downward. And asymptomatic means "no symptoms," not a "case" without symptoms.
The political pandemic is winding down, and the case-demic is being revealed.
How is that a “problem”?
Your thinking is a”s backwards.
You know more about South Africa than the South African President?
Have you even been to Africa before?
So why is Dementia Joe pushing mandates?
“How is that a “problem”?
Your thinking is a”s backwards.”
No, my thinking is sarcastic, but it does seem to accurately represent what our (i.e., the US) top prior is - which is keeping Big Pharma happy.
I’ve been very impressed by South Africa’s medical system, for a couple of a reasons unrelated to the pandemic (and now with their discovery and announcement of Omicron, which they nailed perfectly, while the West was more obsessed with putting people into concentration camps), so anytime they say something, I listen very carefully).
“...top PRIORITY”
Mandates are intended to minimize death and mutation. Not necessarily in that order. That has been the thinking in France and England and even China.
Mutations are global and the latest likely came from Botswana. They don’t have much vax availability there so a mandate would not be very effective. FR has been obsessed with the concept of all of it being a DNC philosophical maneuver to define society, and this cannot make sense when the virus chops down so very many people outside the US. Peru leads the world in deaths per million population and they have ZERO interest in what the DNC thinks.
Foot stomping and ranting that “it’s not about health, it’s about control!!!!” doesn’t really play very well when you look at Russia’s death curves.
bttt
Owen is a COVID Karen. He actually believes “extinction is possible” from it.
He loves mandates.
What’s hilarious is that he selectively reinterprets data to fit his hysteria. He tries to compare South Africa’s death rates when there was no wave instead of matching peak for peak.
The omicron peak is magnitudes less than either the original or delta peaks and he absolutely ignores it.
