I Tested And Ranked The 7 "Most Popular" Frozen Pizzas, And I'll Just Say It — There's One Brand You Couldn't Pay Me To Eat Again If you need me, I'll be eating cold leftover pizza for the next...IDK, year.

I have distinct and incredibly fond memories of eating frozen pizza as a kid. It was generally an "every now and then treat." And then, WHAM. College happened, and suddenly frozen pizza went from "cute tradition" to "literal lifestyle." I know I'm not the only one here. And the number of brands out there?! Staggering.

Now that I'm a grown adult who actually cooks for a living, I'm usually too busy cooking up something not pizza-related...but TBH, I live for a frozen pizza every now and then. That said, the number of choices out there is overwhelming. Have I ever bought the same pizza twice? Truly unsure. Gotta try 'em all, right?

Common Standards:

• DiGiorno – Rising Crust Original Pepperoni

• Freschetta – Naturally Rising Crust Pepperoni

• Newman's Own – Uncured Pepperoni

• Tony's – Pepperoni

• Red Baron – Brick Oven Crust Pepperoni

House Brands:

• Trader Joe's – Wood Fired Naples Style Uncured Pepperoni

• Whole Foods 365 – Rising Crust Uncured Pepperoni

THE EXPERIMENT In order to be 100% fair here, I knew I had to do a blind taste-test. Bless my very, very willing partner for cooking up seven entire pizzas over the course of a day, and bless the fact that we'll have re-frozen frozen pizza for the next...IDK, year. (Side note: If you're reading this and we're friends, come over for pizza.)

I like the pizza sauce on Red Baron.

We used to have a Schwan's truck drive on our street and we loved their frozen pizzas. When the driver told us the route was cancelled he also said their pizzas were Red Baron that were re-branded to the Schwan's name.

I buy the pepperoni pizza, slice a tomato REALLY thin and cover the entire pizza with the tomato slices, then cover the tomatoes with a layer of Mozzarella so the tomato does not dry out. Tons of cheese and the baking takes the acids out of the tomato so it is really great.

I listen to reporters daily that get confused if 2 big words are side by side, they often conflate them and change the meaning.

I am no reporter but I know when pizza is crapolla ;)

It aint rocket science folks, no one likes dried up shriveled veg.

All of those are trash to me…. Only frozen pizza I ever get a hankering for is Totino’s… loved their combination pie, but that was before they cheapened the pepperoni and made it •pepperoni seasoned pork, chicken and beef topping”…

Was a staple in my house growing up, so it’s still an admitted guilty habit I allow myself now and again, though now I will get the pepperoni pizza because it still uses something it can call pepperoni and not the cheaper I don’t know what mentioned above.

No you won’t confuse it with self rising pizza or really any pizza you typically would get in a pie shop…. Dough is more of a thin cracker ish type… but from a taste perspective… if I am going to settle for a frozen pizza that’s what I will have.

Otherwise no other frozen pizza I have ever tried was worth the time or money. Lets face it I can pick up a carry out special from a local pizza shop for about the same price or less depending on the brand…

Those are actually not the “cheap” frozen pizzas.

If you want a half way decent truly cheap frozen pizza, Jacks is the one.

I used to get them 3/$10 or sometimes 4/$10. Open package, pull off the pepperoni, add more cheese. Add onions and the pepperoni plus a few extras. Some green pepper or olives and bake.

The sauce actually tastes like something. The sauce is the key to whether I like pizza or love it.

I knew you were a fellow Minnesotan when I saw your mention of Heggies. Every dive bar in small town Minnesota has Heggies on the menu. It’s actually pretty good for frozen pizza.

The Brew Pub Lotzza Motzza is just too cheesy for me and I love cheese. :)

The best cheap pizza in my book is Jack’s. I like to doctor it up with extra veggies. Works in a pinch when I don’t feel like cooking.

why
Why
WHY did you post this thread?
Of all topics to post, you had to pick this one.
Now I have a craving for pizza.
I have more important things to do than make a pizza.
I could go and buy a frozen one but it’s freezing outside (5F)... and I don’t think the car wants to go anywhere today...
sigh.... pizza

I know exactly how my oven works, but you can’t fix frozen food, with the notable exception of most Jimmy Dean products.

I didn’t say that Little Caesar had great pizza, but it’s better than any frozen pizza I’ve tried. Anyone over age 50 who likes frozen pizza just has an underdeveloped palate. To each his own.
