I have distinct and incredibly fond memories of eating frozen pizza as a kid. It was generally an "every now and then treat." And then, WHAM. College happened, and suddenly frozen pizza went from "cute tradition" to "literal lifestyle." I know I'm not the only one here. And the number of brands out there?! Staggering.
Now that I'm a grown adult who actually cooks for a living, I'm usually too busy cooking up something not pizza-related...but TBH, I live for a frozen pizza every now and then. That said, the number of choices out there is overwhelming. Have I ever bought the same pizza twice? Truly unsure. Gotta try 'em all, right?
Common Standards:
• DiGiorno – Rising Crust Original Pepperoni
• Freschetta – Naturally Rising Crust Pepperoni
• Newman's Own – Uncured Pepperoni
• Tony's – Pepperoni
• Red Baron – Brick Oven Crust Pepperoni
House Brands:
• Trader Joe's – Wood Fired Naples Style Uncured Pepperoni
• Whole Foods 365 – Rising Crust Uncured Pepperoni
THE EXPERIMENT In order to be 100% fair here, I knew I had to do a blind taste-test. Bless my very, very willing partner for cooking up seven entire pizzas over the course of a day, and bless the fact that we'll have re-frozen frozen pizza for the next...IDK, year. (Side note: If you're reading this and we're friends, come over for pizza.)

the pizza place is closed today... :(
Thanks for this info. I agree with his findings based upon my anecdotal experience.
a fairly humorous article on a common issue...

7. Whole Foods 365 — This was pretty much one of the most revolting pizza crusts I’ve ever tasted.
6. Trader Joe’s — I genuinely think they meant well, but this pizza was drier than a literal desert...let me explain.
5. Tony’s — While the crust may be doable (though not at all exciting), the toppings reaaaaally weren’t.
4. Newman’s Own — I don’t entirely understand the hype over this one, but if you like a super thin-crust pizza, I’d definitely suggest it.
3. Freschetta — The pepperoni fell short on this one for...well, a few important reasons. However, the other elements were some of the best I tasted.
2. Red Baron — The closest frozen pizza to New York-style that I tried.
1. DiGiorno — “It’s not delivery, it’s...also the best frozen pizza out there. Hands down.”
Lately, I've been cooking it differently in my countertop oven (Breville Smart Oven Pro). I set the oven to Pizza (no convection) and the rack at the bottom on the Pizza level with a pizza stone. Then I crank the heat up to the maximum (480° F) and let the stone heat up for 10 minutes. I cook the pizza for about 10 minutes at max temperature and then turn the oven to super-convection for a few minutes more, just to make sure the toppings get cooked.
I think it comes out better than following the instructions on the box.

Ellio’s Pizza didn’t make the list? Shocker.
Spoiler!!!
the read is the fun
Bellatoria is pretty good - their cheese pizza doctored up with diced onions, tomatoes and black olives is my favorite.
Also, Lidl has a Sicilian think crust pizza that is similar to CPK for about half the price that is good as well.
I ADORE pizza and delivery now is spotty so trying to adapt.
Surprised on the poor Trader Joes test. They usually do a good job on their house brand.
the crust is always a problem.... on all of them!!
I like the pizza sauce on Red Baron.
Some of us want the score card without slogging through a long read.
Ditto the freepers who post a video without providing a summary to force those interested to watch the video.
I always doctor them up but the crust always lets me down.
pretty good at 2 AM, but crappola by day break
You can regularly get DiGiorno for $5 and Red Barron for 3 for $10 when on sale.
good price too
